Grab A Plate Of Chicken Rice For $0.80 At This New Hawker Stall In Bukit Batok

Duck King celebrates the opening of its newest outlet with a four-day promotion for its chicken rice.

These are turbulent times for the world, what with the ongoing pandemic, Russian invasion in Ukraine and the threat of even more inflation. So one can’t be faulted for wanting to tighten one’s belt. Enter this $0.80 plate of roast chicken rice (original price $3). The promotional price is available for four days from March 5 to March 8 at roast meat specialty hawker stall chain Duck King’s newest outlet at a kopitiam in Bukit Batok St 21. While the brand has three other stalls, this special price is only available at the new Bukit Batok branch.

Does the promo have any catch? Well, according to the boss Carlson You (who runs Duck King with pal Chin Jian Liang) — nope. $0.80 buys you the same portion as a starter plate of chicken rice, which normally goes for $3.

“We don’t have a limit on [the number of promotional plates we sell] a day. We’ll serve as best as our cooks can do, while maintaining standards,” says Carlson. You can also order as many plates of this discounted chicken rice as you’d like if you’re dining in – though you’re limited to a maximum of three packets per person for takeaway.

Besides chicken, Duck King also serves charcoal-roasted duck (of course), sio bak and char siew. So, why is chicken the focus of this deal?

“The price of duck is higher, and roast duck needs a lot more prep work. If it gets really busy, we won’t have time to cook enough ducks,” explains Carlson. “This promotion’s objective is to attract more customers and let them know about this new outlet. Hopefully they’ll come and try our other roast meats too,” he adds.

Here’s the portion you can expect for less than a dollar. FYI, you can also get a bowl of soup to go with your chicken rice free-of-charge (even if you’re tapow-ing: just bring your own container to avoid the $0.20 container fee, says the hawker).

The brand first started as The Duck King Legend SG in 2017 with a third partner, but rebranded to Duck King after said partner left. Their recipes are from Jian Liang’s grandfather, who used to own a roast meat stall in Ipoh. The other three Duck King stalls are located at Ghim Moh, Tampines and MacPherson.

Duck King’s fourth outlet opens March 4 at Blk 217 Bukit Batok St 21, S650217. Open daily 9am – 8.30pm. More info via Facebook.

The $0.80 chicken rice promo runs from Mar 5 to Mar 8, while stocks last.
