Hawker Running Famous Bukit Merah Supper Spot Soon Li Yong Tau Foo Passes Away Suddenly

He had only recently reopened his popular stall after a prolonged closure during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Soon Li Yong Tau Foo is a well-known fixture in Bukit Merah View Market & Hawker Centre. The very popular supper spot is famous for its good yong tau foo served with ikan bilis soup, and unusual opening hours. It is always open only after midnight, and closes sometime around 3am, though these hours are not exactly fixed. As much as people love the stall for its comforting food, the experience of buying the yong tau foo also makes the midnight supper run much more fun.

The hawker uncle has passed away

But sadly, the uncle manning the stall has unexpectedly passed away. In a post on Facebook foodie group Hawkers United, fellow hawker Melvin Chew announced the Soon Li proprietor’s passing, which apparently happened this morning (Feb 22). His cause of death is unconfirmed.

Netizens left condolatory comments on the post, including one stall customer, Edwin David Goh, who said: “I just saw him on Monday morning, he was in front of his stall cutting tau kee. I heard he had a heart attack this morning.” It is also unknown whether the stall will continue operating.

Soon Li Yong Tau Foo is at #01-78, 115 Bukit Merah View, S151115.
