"I Need To Take Care Of Myself To Take Good Care Of Her": Jayley Woo, 31, On Becoming A New Mum

Jalyey, who welcomed her daughter Jan, last week, tells 8days.sg about how motherhood has been for her so far.

Former Mediacorp actress Jayley Woo, 31, announced the birth of her daughter, Jan, on January 21st.

When 8days.sg caught up with Jayley this morning (Jan 27), the first thing we wanted to know was if her baby girl is named after the month she is born in.

And we were right.

“She is," said Jayley via text. "Also, we thought it is an easy name that everyone can pronounce and remember."

While it’s not easy being a first time mum, Jayley said the past week of motherhood for her has been “great”.

When asked if it was what she expected, Jayley shared that she “didn’t really expect anything” and that “everything has been quite fascinating and amazing” to her.

“I’m the type to take things as they come,” she wrote.

Jayley started an Instagram account for baby Jan as soon as she was born, and the kid now boasts more than 2K followers.

Actresses Priscelia Chan and Julie Tan have taken to Jan’s page to show both mother and child some love, and Jan’s aunt, Hayley Woo, has been non-stop gushing over how cute her niece looks.

Jayley’s celeb pals Romeo Tan, Christopher Lee, and Jeremy Chan have also taken to her own page to congratulate her.

Jayley said she definitely feels different after becoming a mum. “There is a sense of responsibility for my child. Like I need to take care of myself in order to take good care of her," she shared.

Though we've all heard stories of new mums struggling to get enough rest when nursing their newborn, Jayley, thankfully, hasn't had to go through that.

She said she's still in a confinement centre, where there are nannies who help take care of both her and Jan.

“My husband has [also] been with me since the start, so I’ve been getting enough rest,” said Jayley.

Jayley and her husband, who is only known as 'Mr Tan', tied the knot on her birthday last month (Dec 27), two months after she announced her pregnancy and engagement.

When asked about the things she is excited to do as a mum, Jayley revealed she is looking forward to “shopping and dressing [Jan] up”.

We totally geddit. Who wouldn’t be excited at playing dress-up with their own mini-me?
