Insta-Buzz: What The Stars Were Up To This Week

Here are some of our favourite snaps from the past week.

It’s been a pretty wholesome week on social media with lots of happy content, including a pregnancy announcement, a uni graduation, lovely wedding photos, and more.

After surviving a 2021 full of “blood, sweat and tears”, the singer-actor showed off the fruits of his labour on Thursday when he announced that he has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts — with First Class Honours too, by the way — in Broadcast Media Production from Teesside University.

According to his wife, Fauzie “went from asking [her] to help [him] with the [Powerpoint] slides for [his] very first assignment all the way to producing [his] own stuff for [his final year project], all within a short span of time”. Congratulations!

And no, it’s not what you might be thinking. The actor definitely had us fooled for a second when he had this piece of “happy news to share” with everyone: “we are welcoming another member into our family!! (sic)”

Since he and influencer Nicole Chang Min had just gotten married, it was pretty natural to assume that he was talking about a (human) baby, but instead, a swipe to the next two pics and a look at Instagram Stories show that the couple had actually adopted a fur-kid, a puppy they’ve named Moon.

James and Nicole had another dog called Milky, but the Papillon passed away in 2019 and his fur was made into diamonds to mark the first anniversary of his death.

Actually having a kid on the way are Kewei and Alfred, who will be giving their two boys a younger sibling in around June or so. The singers, who are set to hold a concert in March, shared the good news on Thursday, along with a photograph of them holding a sonogram.

“This year we need to move to a bigger home, change to a bigger car... because another little one is on the way! #Shenmomo, #xiaopianpian, what’s next?” they wrote, referring to the nicknames of their sons.

More and more local stars are travelling overseas and making us super envious with their holiday snaps with one of the latest being the 987FM DJ, who visited Old Trafford to watch his favourite team Manchester United play against West Ham United.

It was Joakim’s fourth time catching a Man U match at the world famous football stadium and he even bought a Matchday VIP Experience pass, which comes with extra perks like better seats and a complimentary bar.

Even if you don’t have plans to travel overseas anytime soon, there are still plenty of things to do in Singapore, such as soak up the sun and go for a swim on Sentosa, just like these two couples did earlier this week (and if you’ve got a hot beach bod like them, you can take the opportunity to show it off on your socials too).

Kayly Loh shared film photos taken by guests at her wedding

Here’s a lovely idea for those about to hold a wedding banquet: Do what the actress did and put disposable film cameras at every table so that guests can snap away throughout the event, which Kayly called the “best decision of the wedding night”... other than marrying her husband, of course.

“Going through the photos were sooo much fun, seeing the night through the eyes of our loved ones, memories immortalized in these unfiltered stills (sic),” she gushed.

The actor-host got to enjoy some bonding time with his 17-year-old daughter Sage and 15-year-old son Jonas when they got to tag along with him to a restaurant preview. While he posted pics of some very delicious-looking dishes, it was the shots of his children that got netizens talking, with many gushing about how grown up the teens are.

They really do grow up super fast (in fact, Sage and Jonas are actually turning 18 and 16 respectively this year).

Fans who have been waiting for new music from Kit would be glad to know that she recently returned to the studio after a two-week break from work and is set to release a Cantonese song.

“It is really something since I can hardly remember the last time I did that,” she said. Well, according to her Wikipedia page, her last Cantopop album was 2001’s Numbness, so it’s been over two decades.

Jamie Yeo’s booster jab plaster “wreaked havoc” on her skin

While we’re used to seeing folks take to social media to lament about the side effects of their vaccinations, this may be the first time we’ve seen someone talk about the plaster that’s pasted over the injection site.

On Tuesday, Jamie, who just got her booster shot, shared a “public service announcement for people with sensitive skin”, which is to remove the plaster “ASAP” after the jab.

“I left mine on overnight and it wreaked havoc on my skin,” she wrote. “The itch is insane and [three] days later, my booster side effects are gone but the itch from this plaster induced red patch is still on fire.”

Yikes. Hope it gets better soon.

Li Nanxing lost his Instagram account… and got it back

Li Nanxing lost his Instagram account… and got it back

While fake accounts claiming to be celebs are annoying, at least they’re relatively easy to deal with (just report, block, and warn the public about them).

For Nanxing, however, he unfortunately became the victim of a much more serious case when his entire Instagram page was taken over by hackers, who proceeded to approach his followers to ask for money and even asked Nanxing to pay a “ransom” to get his account back.

Ah Ge had no choice but to abandon his original account @lnxglobal_official and launch a new one at @lnx.global, but in the wee hours of Thursday morning, he announced that he was able to get his original handle back thanks to Facebook and IT teams.

If you were planning to order the CNY bundle from Fann’s online pastry shop Fanntasy, we’re afraid we have bad news for you ‘cos according to the Ah Jie, they’re completely sold out.

Then again, Chinese New Year is just a little over a week away, so we guess you can just let this be a lesson not to do things at the last minute?

Hirzi Zulkiflie shared his thoughts on the Samsung ad controversy

Hirzi Zulkiflie shared his thoughts on the Samsung ad controversy

Samsung’s decision to remove an ad featuring a Muslim mother supporting her drag queen son in Singapore upset many people, especially those from the local LGBTQ community, but Hirzi, who’s known for his drag queen parodies, decided to remain positive.

Posting a “throwback to drag queens and hijabis in a loving space”, the YouTube star had this message for Samsung: “I appreciate the attempt at pledging inclusivity and visibility for these folks and their loving hijabi mums. No matter what your decision was after, I first salute that attempt.”

“It’s not an easy try with the community. We know. But I hope this open letter of support don’t discourage you in the future. Hearts don’t change over night and the resistance can sometimes seem louder than support. But to all allies, Hijabi and Corporate… just remember when it’s hard for you.. Think of how much harder it is for these folks. (sic)”
