Johnny Depp Jokes That He Is Available For "Birthdays And Bar Mitzvahs" At 2022 MTV VMAs
Johnny Depp made a bizarre cameo appearance at Sunday's 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
Johnny Depp joked about needing work during a bizarre cameo appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in New Jersey on Sunday night (Aug 28).
In his first public appearance since his highly-publicised defamation battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor turned up in a pre-recorded sketch where his face was digitally imposed inside the helmet of the VMA Moon Man statue.
He made a series of appearances throughout the evening and during one skit, he joked: "I just want you guys to know that I'm available for birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need. And you know what? I needed the work."
Depp later told the audience: "VMAs let's get back to the f*****g music, shall we?"
Depp's VMA appearance is believed to be his first major TV appearance in the US since his 2017 turn on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Since the defamation verdict in June, Depp and Jeff Beck performed in a series of concerts; they even released a 13-track album called 18.
Depp is also set to direct Modigliani — his first directorial gig since his 1997 debut The Brave — a biopic about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
He's also starring as King Louis XV in French filmmaker Maïwenn’s upcoming film Jeanne du Barry, a historical romance drama about a royal’s concubine. This will be Depp's first major acting role since 2020's Minamata, in which he played war photographer W Eugene Smith.
