K-pop idol Jake apologises for drinking Starbucks coffee during live stream amid boycott
Since Oct 2023, the coffee giant has been hit with calls for a boycott after its union posted a pro-Palestinian message on social media.
K-pop idol and ENHYPEN member Jake has found himself in a predicament for drinking Starbucks coffee during a recent live stream.
The Seattle-based coffee giant has been hit with calls for a boycott since October 2023 after its union posted a message on social media allegedly supporting Palestine in the Israel-Hamas war.
Jake’s innocuous act drew backlash from fans, who criticised him of being “ignorant” and “drinking blood coffee”.
During the live stream, ENHYPEN fans, who are also known collectively as ENGENEs, left comments telling Jake, 21, to “stop buying Starbucks as it sponsors massacres in Gaza” and to “apologise and educate [himself]”.
Despite quickly transferring his drink into a glass cup, it did not appease fans.
The rapper eventually said he would stop drinking and put the beverage away.
“I made a mistake, I'm very sorry, [this] won't happen again,” he said.

Several Korean stars have come under fire for using Starbucks products.
Just last month, singer Jeon Somi was called out for drinking from a Starbucks tumbler in a TikTok video.
She did not address the matter, leading many to suspect she was paid to promote the tumbler from the brand’s 2023 holiday collection.
