Kenneth Ma’s auntie fans shower him with ang pows on stage

He's raking in the cash.

While it is not uncommon for fans to shower their idols with gifts or, um, underwear, TVB star Kenneth Ma’s auntie groupies seem to prefer to give him something more practical — cash.

Recently, images of the 49-year-old actor performing at what looked like a mini concert have been making the rounds online.

According to netizens who shared the snaps, the event, which also featured other performers, was part of the intinerary of a 2 Day 1 Night tour of the Chinese city of Huizhou.

He's an auntie killer

In the clip, Kenneth, who looked dapper in a blue suit, was seen on stage performing ‘Friends For Life’.

Never mind that singing is not his strongest suit, fans were thrilled to see the star and clamoured to shake his hands.

Some generous fan aunties were seen handing him ang pows, which he politely accepted and put in his pocket.

He also did not forget to pay fan service, occasionally squatting down for selfies with the crowd.

Fans quipped that Kenneth was so polite, it's no wonder he is so popular with the aunties.

Some netizens, however, felt that it was distasteful of Kenneth to accept red packets from fans.

They noted that he already receives an appearance fee, which is around 200,000 yuan (S$39K), for such gigs, and questioned if he is so hard up for money that he has to resort to such cheap thrills.

However, some netizens defended the actor, saying that giving red packets is the local custom and the ang pows, which typically only contain 10 yuan (S$2), are a token of good luck and respect.
