KTV In China Fined S$2K For Keeping Disgraced Singer Kris Wu’s Songs In Their System

How strict.

Disgraced Chinese pop star Kris Wu, 31, was arrested by the Beijing police over charges of rape and group licentiousness in July last year. The investigation on his case has been made private, and Kris is now detained in Beijing Chaoyang District Detention Centre.

Since his arrest, Kris has been canceled in the Chinese media and has also lost all his brand endorsements. It now appears that the ban on Kris also extends to karaoke bars.

According to Chinese site Finance Sina, a KTV in Guangdong was recently revealed to have two of Kris’ music videos, ‘Coffee’ and ‘Dawn’, still in their system.

An official from a Guangdong government body found that the KTV had gone against two clauses in an article under the Regulation on the Administration of Entertainment Values.

According to reports, the clauses prohibit certain entertainment activities that contain specific content at entertainment venues.

As such, the KTV was fined RMB10K (S$2K).

Many Chinese netizens have since chimed in on the situation.

“If I were to sing the songs by these tainted artists, what would my punishment be?” wrote one netizen.

Another comment read: “ This… is becoming a problem. The artist who committed the crime could undergo corrective punishment, but if we’re talking about his work, wouldn’t you also say that his fans have changed too?”

Others also left comments saying that the law was too strict, and the KTV was "unnecessarily fined" in this instance.
