Lim Kay Siu Joins Cast Of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Live-Action Series

Homegrown actor Lim Kay Siu has joined the cast of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series.

According to Variety, Lim, Kim’s Convenience’s Paul Lee Sun-Hyung and Lost’s Ken Leung are the latest actors have been added to the production, which is currently filming in British Columbia, Canada (per IMDBPro).

Based on the Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender follows the adventures of Aang and friends Katara and Sokka, as they fight to save the world by defeating the Fire-Nation.

Lim, Lee and Leung join previously announced cast members Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai), Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousely (Sokka) and Dallas Liu (Zuko).

The Happy Belly actor, 61, will play Gyatso, a kind and caring Air Nomad monk who is the guardian, father figure and best friend to Aang. Lee will play Uncle Iroh, a retired Fire Nation general and the wise and nurturing mentor to his hot-headed nephew, Prince Zuko.

Leung will play Commander Zhao, a scheming and ambitious Fire Nation, a military officer who’s eager to leverage an unexpected encounter with a desperate Prince Zuko to advance his personal goals.

The animated version of Avatar aired on Nickelodeon for three seasons from 2005 to 2008. It spawned a sequel series Legend of Korra, which ran for four seasons from 2012 to 2014, and a 2010 Razzie-feted live-action movie by M Night Shyamalan.

Lim, the younger brother of veteran thesp Lim Kay Tong, is no stranger to Hollywood productions. He acted alongside Chow Yun-Fat and Jodie Foster in 1999’s Anna and the King as Prince Chowfa.

Other familiar local names who have recently appeared in a Netflix production include Tan Kheng Hua, who guest-starred in the comedy series Medical Police, Jimmy Taenake is in the just-out Portuguese spy thriller Gloria; and Darryl Yong in the docu-series The Raincoat Killer.

Elsewhere, Code of Law’s Sunny Pang recently wrapped filming the Tom Hardy-Timothy Olyphant-led actioner Havoc, which is slated to drop on the streaming service next year.

Netflix hasn’t set a launch date for Avatar: The Last Airbender.
