Lin Meijiao Dedicates Best Supporting Actress Award to Her Late Mum: “Did You See Me On Stage?”

It was a bittersweet win for the actress who lost her mum in September last year.

We didn’t mean to make Lin Meijiao cry after she was named Best Supporting Actress for her role as a disapproving mother-in-law in My Star Bride.

The 58-year-old actress was all giddy with excitement and probably running on adrenaline when we met her backstage to speak to her about her third Best Supporting Actress win. She previously won in 2013 for Game Plan and 2019 for Fifty and Fabulous.

However, Meijiao's mood took a sombre turn when we brought up how tough a year she had. For those who don’t know, Meijiao’s mum passed away in September 2021 at the age of 80.

“A lot of things happened the past year,” she said. “Actually, I want to dedicate this award to my mum… Yeah… (her eyes well up with tears). She used to watch all my shows! So if I went up on stage, she would definitely be watching. And she would be very happy for me.”

So is there anything she would say to her mum about her win tonight?

“I’ll say, ‘Ma… Yesterday I went on stage… (Starts tearing up) Did you see me? I really can’t talk about this…”

Congrats Meijiao!

On a lighter note, when asked about what she would say to Cynthia Koh, her co-star in My Star Bride, who was widely-tipped to win the award, she said: “Sorry…(laughs) No lah… Just joking lah. Cynthia will be very happy that I won too because she said that she would be happy for whoever wins from My Star Bride. So I would say that when I have veteran’s luck. Wait long enough and you will have the chance. (Laughs).
