After Robinsons announced in October that it’s closing its remaining two outlets at The Heeren and Raffles City Shopping Centre, another longtime Raffles City tenant is leaving the building.

British retail chain Marks & Spencer put out a newspaper ad today (Dec 10) to inform the public that it is “moving out” of the City Hall mall. It had been there for 34 years since 1986, the year Raffles City SC opened. M&S and Robinsons are both owned by the same parent company, the Dubai-based conglomerate Al-Futtaim.

According to the ad in The Straits Times, the store’s last day of operation is on Dec 31, 2020. It will also hold a moving out sale of up to 70 percent off.

From Dec 10-14, there is a 12.12 exclusive promotion where shoppers can get an additional 12 percent off with every $100 nett spent. There is also a buy one, get second at 50 percent off special offer for wines.

But you don’t have to rush down to the Raffles City store like it’s the last M&S on our shores. Despite reporting its first loss in 94 years as a publicly-listed company due to the Covid-19 pandemic, M&S recently told The Business Times that it has no plans to close its “thriving business” here.

On Oct 31 this year, it opened a six-month pop-up store at Waterway Point in Punggol selling its snacks and toiletries, and also has a standalone M&S Food concept at One Raffles Place. It currently has 10 stores in Singapore, including Wheelock Place and Parkway Parade.

8days.sg has reached out to M&S, and will update this story once there is additional information.
