Fastest fingers first: Bookings start as early as Oct 5.

Singapore Airlines will not be operating flights to nowhere, contrary to earlier speculation. Instead, SIA will be offering an array of experiences for folks who miss the experience of flying with our national carrier.

‘Discover Your Singapore Airlines’ is a series of three experiences that the airline will launch from October — a meal onboard an Airbus A380, a tour of SIA’s training facilities, and home delivery of First and Business Class meals. Needless to say, safe distancing measures and enhanced cleaning procedures will be in place.

All experiences will have to booked via KrisShop.com, and KrisFlyer members can redeem their miles to buy the experiences, and also earn miles on their purchases.

1 of 3 #1: For those who miss dining on an A380

What: Restaurant A380 @Changi
When: Oct 24 & 25
You’re going to Changi Airport to board a plane, so pack your bags — okay, maybe just your handbag. Guests will be hopping on an A380 plane, but they won’t be taking off. But they’ll be getting all those inflight feels with this pop-up dining experience.

You’ll get to dine onboard the A380 double-decker jet parked at Changi Airport, which will be converted into a restaurant. You’ll get to choose which cabin class you want to dine in, but no prizes for guessing which seats will be snapped up first.

The A380 plane usually seats about 470 passengers, but that could change with this pop-up experience that will require safe distancing measures in place. Some measures include mandatory mask-wearing at all times for crew and diners (except when eating and drinking), and diners will be seated in up to groups of five, with safe distancing between groups.

On the menu: international or Peranakan cuisine specially designed by acclaimed home-grown chef Shermay Lee. The meal comes with two complimentary alcoholic beverages and free-flow of non-alcoholic drinks.

What’s a meal onboard a plane without entertainment? Yes, you’ll also get to watch some inflight entertainment while you dine. It may be the closest you'll get to the good ol’ days when we could still travel (minus the jetlag).

It’s more than just a dining experience, though. Pre-lunch tours of the aircraft — including private access areas — are available, though slots are limited. Guests will also get KrisShop discounts and goodie bags. Those who turn up in traditional heritage wear, such as the sarong kebaya, cheongsam, saree, or batik shirt will receive a gift (psst, kilts welcome too).
Book: On KrisShop.com from Oct 12. More info about prices here.

2 of 3 #2: For those who’ve always wanted to be part of the SQ crew

What: Inside Singapore Airlines
When: Nov 21, 22, 28 & 29
What does it take to be Singapore Airlines cabin crew, or even a pilot? You may have heard stories from a friend of a friend of a friend, but now you can check it out for yourself. The SIA Training Centre will welcome visitors for two weekends for a behind-the-scenes look at its training grounds.

We’re talking guided tours, chats with pilots and cabin crew, activities and curated experiences suitable for the entire family. Kids will get to take part in activities like balloon sculpting and batik rose making sessions, as well as take home a set of the SIA sarong kebaya uniform. Feeling peckish on your day out? There’ll be a selection of popular onboard meals for sale.

To really get a taste of what it’s like to be a cabin crew and a pilot, there are activities available at an extra charge, such as flight simulator training sessions in an actual flight simulator that Singapore Airlines trainee pilots use.

There’s also a grooming workshop to teach you how to look like a Singapore Girl (yes, both make-up and that famous impeccable chignon), and you’ll get to take home a Lancome make-up palette after the sesh. There are also junior cabin crew experiences for the little ones to dress up and learn customer service skills in a mock-up A380 Business Class cabin.

Vino enthusiasts will be delighted by wine appreciation workshops by sommeliers, where you can enjoy four types of wine, accompanied with cheese.

3 of 3 #3: For those who really, really miss plane food, but don't want to go out

Order a home-dining experience for two, and choose from a menu designed by acclaimed chefs from around the world.
