Maggie Q Says "There's No Better Person To Work With" Than Tom Cruise In Mission: Impossible III

Maggie Q starred as IMF agent Zhen Lei in JJ Abrams' Mission: Impossible III

Maggie Q thinks there's "no better person to work with" than Tom Cruise.

On Light the Fuse, the podcast devoted to all things related to the Mission: Impossible franchise, Q, 43, relished the experience of working with Cruise, 60, in 2006's Mission: Impossible III, where she played IMF agent Zhen Lei.

She shared: "Tom is always trying to make everything better ... Say what you will ... I mean, people say what they want about everyone, but I know for me when I work it's great if you like each other, it's great if you develop a friendship out of a professional working environment, but at the end of the day you really just want to work with professionals who want to achieve the best work.

"If that's what you want, there is no better person to work with than Tom Cruise. There's no one on the planet who fights that hard, who's always thinking, who cares as much as he does. There just isn't. And who's genuinely passionate about the product."

Q added that it was fun to be around Cruise on set because he "is always in a good mood". "I mean, he loves what he does," she said, "Which is why when he's at work he's in a really good mood."

On the podcast, Q — which is short for Quigley — also shared that she arrived at the Mission: Impossible III audition “sick as a dog”.

Despite her condition, Q soldiered on at the encouragement of casting director April Webster. “[She said to me,] ‘You have 10 minutes to change your life. If you can not be sick for 10 minutes and just reign this shit in, and just, like, do what you’re here to do — because I believe it's you — you will get this film.’”

Q added that she was so sick that when she met with director JJ Abrams, she was trembling so hard that she spilled her tea. When asked if she was alright, Q joked that she was suffering from jet lag. She then performed three scenes for three scenes and was immediately offered the part.

And the rest is history.

Cruise and company will return in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, slated to open in Singapore cinemas on July 13, 2023.
