Malaysian Actress Jacquelin Ch’ng Divorces Taiwanese Husband Of 2 Years 'Cos They Couldn’t Compromise On Which Country To Settle Down In

Jacquelin, who was signed to TVB, is based in Hong Kong and China, while her ex-husband runs a bubble tea chain in Taiwan.

Malaysian-born, Hongkong-based actress Jacquelin Ch’ng, 42, recently announced that she has filed for divorce from her Taiwanese husband of two years, Brian Yang. Brian is believed to be the CEO of a bubble tea chain in Taiwan.

The couple had a long-distance relationship even before marriage, spending most of their one-year courtship apart in different cities due to work.

Jacquelin is based in Hong Kong, and has been accepting more work opportunities in China of late. Meanwhile, Brian is based in Taiwan, as that’s where his business is located.

According to media reports, prior to tying the knot, Brian promised that he would move to either Hong Kong or China to be with Jacquelin. However, he reneged on his words after they got married. Instead, he wanted Jacquelin to move to Taiwan.

Jacquelin also spoke to the media, where she revealed that both parties could not compromise on where to settle down after getting hitched.

This resulted in multiple arguments that eventually soured their relationship.

She added that the last time Brian went over to Hong Kong to visit her was in 2021. Even on her birthday this year, which fell on May 1, Brian merely sent her a message conveying his well-wishes. At that time, he promised to visit her in August. However, that visit did not happen either.

Jacquelin said that the two of them eventually agreed on one thing — to call it quits and divorce, since they had conflicting priorities.

She also denied that there were any third parties involved. As the couple kept their finances separate, there won’t be any shared assets to split, and neither will there be any alimony involved.

Finally, she added that her family members are aware of her decision, and that they respected her choice to file for divorce.

According to Malaysian media, Jacquelin is the daughter of millionaire Malaysian property tycoons Datuk Bill Ch’ng Poh and Datin Kong Yuk Chu.

On Nov 8, she updated her Instagram with a short message, assuring everyone that all is well.

“Thankful for everyone’s concern. Everything’s fine, a new beginning,” she wrote, adding a heart emoji.
