McDonald’s China Launches Exercise Bikes For People To Work Off Fast Food Binge

We may need these viral McBikes at our dining table for the festive period.

McDonald’s fast food is not known for being diet-friendly. But if you dine at McDonald’s outlets in China, you can well burn off some calories while chowing down on your Big Mac. Just this month, the fast food chain installed novelty exercise bikes at two of its restaurants in Guangdong and Shanghai.

The bikes are affixed to the restaurants’ tables, and customers are encouraged to pedal while they eat. If you can’t visualise it, just watch this video of a woman scarfing down her McDonald’s meal while cycling, which has gone viral online:

A statement by McDonald’s China explains that these bikes are known as Green Charging Bikes. Launched as a test project in selected McOutlets, the bikes have the additional benefit of generating electricity while customers cycle. The electricity can then be used to charge mobile phones. The bikes themselves are also made from recycled plastic as part of McDonald’s ‘Upcycle for Good’ initiative. Anybody need these at their dining table for the upcoming festive season?
