Mickey Huang Fulfils Promise Of Buying Co-Host Lulu Huang An Hermès Birkin After They Win Golden Bell Best Host Award Together

And what bags are your friends giving you? Plastic bag?

If you're looking for a friend, make sure you find one like Taiwanese host Mickey Huang.

Not only is the 50-year-old a man of his word, he is also very generous.

At the recent 57th Golden Bell Awards, Mickey and Lulu Huang, 31, were both nominated for Best Host in a Variety Show for their music-themed reality show Wedding Singer.

During the red carpet, Mickey made a promise to Lulu that if they manage to clinch the award that night, he would gift her an Hermès Birkin.

And guess who went on to win the award that night? That's right, Lulu and Mickey.

Look who got her Birkin?

Of course, Mickey honoured his promise.

According to the host, he started searching for the bag after their win.

The price of a Birkin ranges from US$10,100 (S$14.3K) to US$61,700 (S$87K), and even at that exorbitant price, is still one of the most coveted bags in the world.

It's said that to buy a Birkin, you would need to be the brand's VIP, or know someone who is to help you make the connection.

Mickey, who isn't an Hermès VIP, said his friends told him there are very few Birkin bags around now, especially because of the pandemic.

When he texted Lulu to tell her how much trouble he's facing in getting one, Lulu told him that she understands, and knowing the price of the bag, is okay with receiving a secondhand Birkin.

In the end, Mickey managed to buy one from a friend who collects Birkins.

Best friend ever?

However, some netizens felt Mickey could have donated the money he spent on the Birkin to charity instead.

Mickey's response? He said he's always been doing charity, and that he just wanted to use this opportunity to encourage Lulu, who's been working hard for the past decade.

He also thanked Lulu for accepting a secondhand bag.

"Lulu helped me saved some inheritance for [my six-month-old daughter] Corn Huang. Next time I won't casually make promises anymore. Who knew I'd be so spot on [about the awards?]" he joked.
