Netizens Suspect Patrick Tse Might Have Suffered A Stroke After His Mouth Appeared 'Crooked' During Best Actor Speech

Patrick's good friend, Wu Fung, has since refuted the rumours.

On July 17, Hongkong actor Patrick Tse, 85, received a standing ovation at the Hongkong Film Awards (HKFA) when he won Best Actor award for his role as a retired assassin in the black comedy Time.

Believe it or not, it was Patrick's first Best Actor win ever at the HKFA. And he's been in showbiz for over 70 years.

In fact, he only won his first ever Best Actor award earlier this year at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award for the same role.

However, after images of Patrick giving his short speech on stage were posted online, netizens began suspecting that the actor may not be in the best of health.

Some noted that Patrick’s mouth appeared to be crooked, and wondered if he might have suffered a stroke recently.

Thankfully, it seems like Patrick is still very healthy.

When Hongkong media dropped a call to Patrick’s good friend, fellow actor Wu Fung, the 90-year-old quickly dispelled any worries.

Bowie and Patrick are as thick as thieves.

Wu Fung shared that he’d learnt about Patrick’s win just a day ago, after reading the newspaper.

He added that he would give Patrick a call to congratulate him as well. When the reporter shared that the public was worried about Patrick’s health, Wu Fung appeared taken aback, and asked: “What's wrong with him? We just met for tea two weeks ago.”

The actor also confirmed that Patrick is doing alright, when he was informed that there were rumours that the latter had suffered a stroke.

Additionally, since Patrick is now the oldest Best Actor winner at the HKFA, Wu Fung was asked if he intends to come out of retirement and start acting again just so he can surpass Patrick’s record.

Laughing, Wu Fung replied: “No way! Fourth Brother [Patrick’s nickname] is really good at acting! As for me, I’ve already broken the record for being the oldest singer to have a concert at the Hongkong Coliseum!”

Apart from Wu Fung, Hongkong singer-actor Nicholas Tse, 41, also took to social media twice to congratulate his father on his win.

Netizens had initially criticised Nicholas for not turning up at the awards ceremony to support his father. Instead, it was Patrick’s co-star, Hongkong actor Gordon Lam, 54, who acted as Patrick’s ‘son’, assisting the actor as he walked up on stage. Gordon also produced and co-wrote Time.

Nicholas is believed to be in Beijing at the moment. His first post, which was made on the night of the awards ceremony, was a simple: “Congrats, dad.”

Father and son are pretty close too.

A day later, he wrote a longer post. “Daddy got the Best Actor award, of course I’m very happy for him. Thank you to all his fans, for loving and supporting him over the past 60 years. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award two years ago, and won the Best Actor award this year, he’s definitely very happy.”

Nicholas made headlines back in 2011, when he took the stage at the HKFA to accept his Best Actor award for his role in 2010 movie The Stool Pigeon.

During his speech, Nicholas apologised to his dad, saying: “When I won the Best New Performer award at the age of 18, I went home and placed the award on the table, and told him, ‘You’ve filmed hundreds of movies, have you ever won a HKFA award?’ Those words have been a thorn in my heart for the past 12 years. I know that he’s watching the ceremony at home today, I hope that he would forgive that young friend, who was disrespectful and didn’t know his place. Dad, it’s you who [deserves] the Best Actor award!”
