New Udon Mookata Moving Out Of Golden Mile Complex To New Location In April

Golden Mile Complex was sold en bloc to a consortium for S$700 million in May 2022.

Last May, it was announced that Golden Mile Complex at Beach Road was sold en bloc to a consortium for S$700 million. The change of ownership for the popular late-night supper haunt also prompted the golden question: What will happen to the eateries in the building?

A good number of Golden Mile’s F&B tenants told 8days.sg that they were prepared to move out. New Udon Mookata, one of the oldest and most well-known there, also had plans to relocate and open new outlets.

“We’re expected to move [out of Golden Mile] around May or June next year,” its second-gen owner Goh Jin Na, 21, told us in 2021. “We already have plans [to open] in other places — Jurong West and Greenwood Avenue at Bukit Timah. We considered opening in the east side, but we don’t have any plans yet. It will most likely be in Paya Lebar.”

Relocation confirmed

A sign recently placed at the entrance of New Udon at Golden Mile Complex informed customers that it will be moving in April this year to 119 Lavender Street in the Jalan Besar neighbourhood. According to a New Udon staff, the new shophouse space “seats about 20 pax”, which is half of its current 40-pax capacity.

Short-lived Foch Road outlet

Last June, the Thai barbecue joint opened an outlet at Foch Road, also in Jalan Besar. It was unfortunately short-lived, as its Facebook page now lists it as “permanently closed”. Plans to open more branches in Jurong West and Greenwood Avenue have also apparently been put on hold.
