Rui En Once Hit Rock Bottom And Couldn’t Get Out Of Bed; Says She “Didn’t Shower” At All During That Period

The actress, who described herself as someone who’s very vain, got real about feeling down in the final episode of Jean Danker’s podcast, R U Okay?.

If you go on Rui En’s Instagram, it’s clear that the actress is a beauty and skincare junkie, with her frequent IG Story posts sharing about her skincare favourites, and multiple-step skincare routine.

So when the 41-year-old was a guest on the last episode of Class 95 DJ Jean Danker’s podcast, R U Okay?, we didn’t bat an eyelid when the actress joked about her “50 step skincare routine” and bath time routine.

“If you walk into my shower… It’s for one person, but it looks like it's for a family-of-six. I have multiple shampoos and shower gels there. I'm very sensitive to smell, and so I just like having nice smelling things. I'm a very vain person, I like to shower, I like to put on my skin care,” Rui En said.

However, what she revealed next took us by surprise.

Getting real

Getting real

“I remember there was one point, when I just couldn't get out of bed. Like I literally couldn't get out of bed,” she said, adding: “ I didn't shower, I didn't even wash my face, I didn't put on my skincare 'cos I just couldn't get out of bed.”

She went on to share that she can’t remember how long that period lasted for, but it was a clear example of an instance when she felt as if she’d hit rock bottom.

Continuing on, she said that she “can’t remember” how she eventually picked herself up and got herself out of her funk, but she has since found a few ways that help her tremendously.

All about that endorphin rush

First up is exercise.

“For me, personally, endorphins are very important. I kill myself at the gym, and for some reason, circuit training and HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is the thing that gives me the boost,” she said, revealing that she hits the gym around four to five times a week.

Next, is a change in environment, which means getting out of the house, or even just getting out of her room, before getting on the phone to talk to her loved ones.

“It helps, you know. I really feel like… whatever you feel, once it’s out in the open, it loses its power. It gets bigger in the darkness and when you keep it quiet. But when you get it out there, all of a sudden, it loses its magical power [to make you feel down],” she said.
