"At Least My Twin Sister Once Had The Chance To Walk The Red Carpet With Aloysius" And Other Things The Stars Said Off-Camera At Star Awards 2019

People also had lots to say about Felicia’s feathery dress.

The Star Awards is a hectic day for our celebs, to say the least. Getting dressed and getting critiqued for their dressing is just the start of the night and that’s not counting going on TV for the main show. Plenty of bon mots and mutterings fly around at the chaotic backstage, and here’s what the stars have spilled to 8days.sg about their big bash.

1 of 20 Jesseca Liu

“I’m wearing $2.4mil worth of Tiffany & Co jewellery, so I have a security guard following me throughout the night.”

- Jesseca Liu literally looked like 2.4 million bucks.

2 of 20 Jayley Woo

“This might be the last time I’m walking the Star Awards red carpet… Does this mean I’m leaving showbiz? Well, I’m a YOLO girl at heart. I feel like being in a big competition like this, I tend to think negatively if I’m not strong enough. But I’m grateful to be nominated. [Aloysius] didn’t think it would be his last time walking the red carpet last year either (tears up). At least my twin sister [Hayley Woo, right in pic] once had the chance to walk the red carpet with him. We’re identical twins, so I can superimpose my head on her in the photos [and pretend that I’m there with him].”

- Jayley Woo still misses her beau a lot.

3 of 20 Desmond Tan

“Guys at the awards are always responsible for one thing every year. We help people hide stuff when they go up on stage. There was once I stuffed three or four phones around my waist.”

- Desmond Tan, actor and... mobile phone stand?

Yeah... you want some?

- Des when we asked if he is baring his he-vage again this year.

4 of 20 Sheila Sim

“Every year I ask the guys to keep my phone for me on the red carpet, but this year my dress has pockets.”

- We guess Sheila Sim doesn't have to stash her mobile phone down, er, Desmond Tan's pants anymore?

5 of 20 Chen Xiuhuan

“My feet are going numb in my six-inch heels!

- Chen Xiuhuan suffers for beauty.

6 of 20 Rebecca Lim

“I switched out my heels after seeing the stairs on the red carpet. I have fallen down once before, so it’s a phobia now. Wearing heels may be beautiful, but not falling down is more beautiful.”

- Rebecca Lim, on the other hand, doesn't believe in suffering for beauty.

If we had to sing 'live', [the production team] probably wouldn't find me.
- Becks on how nervous she was about having to perform the opening theme song with Zoe Tay, Chen Hanwei and Desmond Tan.

7 of 20 Rebecca Lim

“I wasn’t nervous about the awards until Christopher Lee filmed a video saying if I don’t win an award, he will never attend the Star Awards again.”

- No worries, Rebecca Lim, Chris can still attend Star Awards next year now you have a Top 10 trophy.

8 of 20 Felicia Chin

I'm dropping feathers everywhere. It will be easy to spot me!

- Felicia Chin was right on the money.

9 of 20 Florence Tan

“Felicia is leaving traces of herself all over the place (laughs).”

- Former Ch 8 actress Florence Tan knows who the fair-feathered fiend is.

10 of 20 Chen Tianwen

“Eh, how can she anyhow litter?!”

- Chen Tianwen is not a fan of Feli's feathers.

  • 11 of 20 Joanne Peh

“I think Qi Yuwu looks like a knight in shining armour.”

    - Joanne Peh's accessory of choice is 715.

  • 12 of 20 Paige Chua

“Once I take it off after the show, it’s none of my business!”

    - Paige Chua can't wait to part ways with her “simple” earrings and rings, which she says are worth a whopping $100,000.

  • 13 of 20 Romeo Tan

“I don’t have time to be picky, so I immediately confirmed this outfit after trying it once. I’m just hoping the aircon doesn’t break down during the red carpet.”

    - Romeo Tan has hot people problems.

  • 14 of 20 Bryan Wong

“I did an Instagram poll for people to vote whether I should wear a tuxedo or something less conventional.”

    - Guess the people have spoken for Bryan Wong to wear this loud Dolce & Gabbana suit.

  • 15 of 20 Ya Hui

“I don’t know the value of jewellery I’m wearing, but I know that because it’s worn by me, it’s priceless.”

    - Not shy, Ya Hui, not shy.

  • 16 of 20 Ian Fang

“I designed my own suit, which took me a couple of hours. I also had it made in Shanghai, so it’ll kinda be like 'China-style'.

    - Ian Fang lives up to his own hashtag #wegoianstyle.

My grandmother saved my life. Last time in China, there were a lot of people who would kidnap kids [and sell them to syndicates]. It almost happened to me and if my grandmother wasn't alert, I wouldn't be here already.

    - Ian remembering his late grandmother who passed away recently.

  • 17 of 20 Andie Chen

“I feel like I’ve gotten to the point where I just come here to chill and hang out with everyone like a get-together. If I win, it’s a bonus.”

    - Andie Chen, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (the prize went to Chen Shucheng), is all about positive thinking.

“My underwear is also this colour.”

    - TMI leh, Edwin Goh.

  • 19 of 20 Hong Ling and Nick Teo

“Your dress keeps stealing the show! You covered half my body!”

    - Nick Teo grumbled. It's Hong Ling's world and her bae Nick is just living in it, complete with neck massages on demand. In Hong Ling's defense: I'm wearing 5-inch heels; it's hard to move around.

  • 20 of 20 Ayden Sng

“When I was growing up, I watched the stars on TV and wanted to experience what it’s like to be at the Star Awards.”

    - Newbie Ayden Sng’s dream came true.
