Has it really been almost five months since My Star Bride aired its last episode?

For local viewers, we had to bid goodbye to the loveable Fang Cao, played by Chantalle Ng, and the reticent but sweet Zhong Shijie, played by Xu Bin, way back in February. But for viewers in China, they’re only just discovering the series, thanks to this viral video clip on Douyin.

In an Instagram post yesterday (July 14), Chantalle shared that her friends in China had messaged her recently, telling her that My Star Bride is “starting to trend there”.

And soon after Chantalle's post, a number of Chinese netizens also left comments, confirming that the drama is all the rage in China now.

As it turns out, it all started from this viral Douyin clip, posted by an account that’s known for editing really sweet moments from different drama series that catch their fancy.

The very first clip featuring My Star Bride was posted just three days ago, but has already garnered 177,000 likes and 12,000 comments.

1 of 5 They're going viral

It looks like netizens in China really like My Star Bride too, with the top comment noting that Chantalle’s voice “really sounds like Rainie Yang”.

Another commenter in a subsequent video also compared Chantalle to Rainie, writing that Chantalle “kinda resembles” the Taiwanese star.

2 of 5 And netizens love it

“This looks really good!” another netizen wrote, while another said that she “stayed up all night to binge the series because it's too addictive .

3 of 5 Cynthia and Meijiao got a shoutout too

A very observant netizen also recognised Cynthia Koh and Lin Meijiao in the drama, writing: “This is the younger aunt and big sister in the original The Little Nyonya”.

History lesson: Cynthia played the scheming younger aunt, Xiujuan, while Meijiao was the evil matriarch of the family in the 2008 Mediacorp drama.

4 of 5 Rocking it

Over on Chinese social networking site Weibo, netizens were also full of praise for My Star Bride, with multiple netizens listing the show on their must-watch list.

“Recommending a series for you guys to watch, My Star Bride. I watched it till the wee hours of the night yesterday, and laughed till my stomach hurt. It’s really meaningful, and very realistic. The interaction between male and female leads are too fun!” one netizen wrote.

Both Chantalle and Xu Bin’s posts on Weibo thanking their fans for their interest in the show also did very well, with netizens commenting that they really loved the show.

5 of 5 Gojek's got her back

In other news, Gojek Singapore has reached out to Chantalle in response to our earlier article on the actress' late night, um, adventure where she took the MRT back to Mediacorp from her home after realising that she had left her car in the office. She had thought about taking a Grab ride but there was a surge in pricing.

Now according to Gojek's new IG Story, they are offering free Gojek rides to Chantalle. Not bad at all.
