Style Evolution: Felicia Chin

Felicia Chin's style has undergone quite the transformation since her Star Search days. Once known for her fun and sporty style (she had a uniform of sports jackets), Feli, who turns 37 today (Oct 24), has evolved to become a daring red carpet dresser, who loves pushing the envelope. Keep reading to see some of her most iconic looks over the years.

Felicia got her showbiz break at the young age of 18 when she emerged the female champion of Star Search 2003. Look how fresh-faced she was!

Felicia gussied up her simple yellow top with statement earrings (remember those?) and an enviable summer tan.

Who can forget Felicia’s infamous “running down Orchard Road in a bikini” scene with Fiona Xie?

Remember when ROXY was the must-have brand? Visors and track jackets weren’t exactly stylish even in 2004, but props to Felicia for looking like that sports coach everyone had a crush on back in our schooling days.

Felicia told us she used to wear sports jackets with everything and she wasn't joking. The look isn't that bad, but the dangly earrings look out of place.

With her layered hair and simple black halter dress, 19-year-old Felicia was barely discernable from your typical university student enjoying a girls’ night out.

Oh dear, her updo and dreary outfit just added 20 years to her look.

Like all of us, Felicia once wore a vest as a top. The woven belt and overdone hairspray sure bring back memories.

This peasant look might seem a little ridiculous now, but it’s nothing compared to what’s coming next….

She was Pierre Png's Mei Ren Yu (Little Mermaid) in the drama, but we think she looks more like Tinkerbell instead.

This look is more worthy of a host on an '80s Taiwanese variety show than on a Caldecott princess.

After that disaster of a dress, Felicia decided to tone it down — way down — for the awards ceremony the following year.

Felicia looked adorable, in a Little House on the Prairie way, with her girly frock and choppy bangs.

Boy, are we hoping this was a wig.

Around 2009, Felicia started pushing the envelope with a sexier look. Wish she would lose the tights though.

We don’t mean this in a bad way but Felicia looks kinda cute as an ah lian, don’t you think?

In between the onslaught of tartan, the wrinkled skirt, the go-go boots, and the inexplicable hairstyle, we’re not sure where to begin with this outfit. We’re going to assume she lost a dare with the show’s stylists.

We love that Felicia doesn’t shy away from bright colours. These are two of our favourite Star Awards looks from the star.

So THIS is what would happen if you went all Cruella de Vil on Elmo.

We only have three words for this: Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, BEETLEJUICE!

Now here’s a cute way to mix prints: break the patterns up with a little bit of skin.

While we adore this bright Isabel Sanchez number on Felicia, her platinum blonde locks seem to wash out her complexion.

Now this strawberry blonde do is much better. But did Felicia spend too much time on her hair and forgot to steam her dress?

What can we say? If you’ve got it, flaunt it — and boy, Felicia’s figure in this cropped top and skirt ensemble has inspired us to revive our gym membership.

Yellow is a tricky colour for Asians but Felicia is a picture of sunshine in this Bimba Y Lola mod dress.

Felicia’s see-through Paolo Sebastian gown will undoubtedly go down as one of the Star Awards’ most iconic looks. Even her fellow artistes, such as the visibly bashful Elvin Ng, weren’t quite sure where to look. She later told us years a couple of years later that the gown was more sheer than expected under the sunlight and it caught her by surprise.

Felicia looked every bit like a star when she accepted the Dream Idol award in this gorgeous gold embroidered gown from The Proposal bridal boutique.

Felicia's hypnotic Mary Katrantzou getup was one of the night's most adventurous looks.

Felicia changed into a soft Basil Soda gown for the awards ceremony.

Not only did Felicia don leather on leather, but she debuted a short hairstyle, courtesy of David Gan, at a Tod's event.

Felicia and boyfriend Jeffrey Xu started looking more and more alike since going public with their relationship. Here they are in his-and-hers hoodies from i.t.

This whimsical cat-print gown from Dolce & Gabbana is perfect for an animal lover like Felicia.

It might look like a dinosaur just took a big cut out of Feli’s dress hem, but we’re digging her unusual outfit choice with its unique asymmetrical hem.

While we aren't fans of this gauzy floral confection, if anyone can carry this off, it's Feli.

Felicia’s second dress, from Mary Katrantzou, gave us major Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat vibes.

On our lust list right now: This Chanel bubblegum pink tweed blazer. Felicia paired it with just a white T-shirt and jeans to prove how a fabulous blazer can instantly turn an outfit from sloppy to stylish.

Felicia may have regretted wearing a naked dress at the 2016 Star Awards, but that hasn't stopped her from donning one again. In 2019, she stepped out in a custom-made number by JessicaCindy that featured a whole lot of feathers. Let’s hope whoever sat next to her didn’t erupt into a sneeze fest.

After walking the red carpet, Felicia changed into this cutesy, sparkly number from Moschino, which we think is more suited to her personality.

We love how fresh and sporty Felicia looks in her red jersey and mustard kicks. If you’d like to try it out, just avoid adding anything green in colour to this combo or risk having nosy aunties telling you how much you look like the traffic light.

We're pretty sure Felicia stole the show in this lit look at the Mediacorp trade event.

Glowy skin aside, Felicia looked splendid at the Star Search 2019 finals in this romantic tiered frock from the Giambattista Valli x H&M collection. We're especially in love with the pretty blooms that help to uplift our mood.

Is anyone getting Yoko Ono vibes?

We love how Felicia looks in vibrant colours but rainbow-on-rainbow ensemble is a tad overboard.

Clearly Felicia loves yellow, and we love her in yellow. This bright and bold number by Tory Burch matches her equally sunny personality perfectly.

Feli, who plays a tough and icy career woman in A Jungle Survivor, donned many smart suits in the drama, but this is one of our favourites. Not only does she look great in fuchsia, the striking hue is a total power move.

The highlight of Feli’s OOTD here is undoubtedly the lilac mohair sweater with contrasting floral embellishments by Valentino. The sequins add a touch of glam to her look.

Felicia may have gone home empty-handed at the Star Awards, but she's a winner in our book with this sassy custom-made tux from Ralph Lauren.

We think that Felicia’s Acne Studios long shirt dress isn’t just a comfy piece to wear on any day of the week, its breathtakingly beautiful prints make it a walking art piece too.
