Ever walk into an animal shelter with no intention of adopting a dog and suddenly decide that you absolutely had to have one? Well, Zoe Tay has.

The actress was simply “visiting” doggy daycare centre Sunny Heights when its owner and founder of non-profit animal shelter Voices of Animals (VFA), Derrick Tan, told her about an adorable five-year-old West Highland Terrier that was up for adoption.

“Derrick persuaded me on the spot, to adopt another dog to go with my Fei Niu,” Zoe told 8days.sg. Fei Niu aka Pepper is Zoe‘s four-year-old Scottish Terrier that she had adopted from VFA in 2019.

Without even consulting her husband, the 52-year-old made the “impromptu decision” to bring Snowball home.

Ah Jie took to Instagram to announce the newest member of her household last weekend, which was “about two weeks” after welcoming Snowball into her family.

“We have an addition to our family, @snowball_ki_ki,” wrote Zoe as she proudly showed off pics of her new pooch. “She has a cute face and eyes that just melt one's heart! Her eyes melted my heart and I had to bring her home.” Yes, that’s right. Zoe has already created an Instagram account for her new pooch.

According to Zoe, Snowball was a breeding dog prior to being rescued. She had also given birth “three to four times” and had been “kept in a cage her whole life”.

“At first, she did not know how to walk properly as she did not walk often, but after a while, she got the hang of it and walking is much brisker now,” the 52-year-old actress said, adding that Snowball has been such a good doggo and hasn’t barked at all since joining the family.

The actress, however, described Snowball as “attention seeking”.

“Every time I pet Pepper, [Snowball] would come and lick my hands, wanting me to pet her,” Zoe shared.

A routine health check-up at the vet also showed that Snowball had two rotten teeth that needed to be extracted, and Zoe took the opportunity to educate fellow fur owners on the importance of their pet’s dental health.

“If the dogs teeth are dirty, bring it to a vet to get them clean and the dogs will be healthier,” Zoe shared. “The vet said it would be better to sterilise her early, so that night, we left her at the vet to get sterilised. The doctor took her blood for a blood test and by the next day, she was done.”

Zoe also added that one of Snowball’s ears had an infection due to past neglect. Her fur kid’s ear was apparently “inflated with water and shrivelled up a bit”, but they decided to leave it alone as it currently isn't a major health concern.
