53-Year-Old Carman Lee Has Had Enough Of Everyone Asking Why She’s Still Not Married
Preach.
Hongkong actress Carman Lee, who made her showbiz debut over 30 years ago, has always kept her age a secret. Although her official profile states that she was born in 1973, making her 46 this year, she reportedly joined Cathay Pacific Airways in 1986 at the age of 19, which means she’s actually 53 this year.
53 or 46, what’s undeniable is that the actress still looks every bit as good (or even better) than she did when she first burst onto the scene as a fresh-faced Xiao Long Nu in 1995. In fact, she’s widely regarded amongst netizens as the “Most Beautiful Xiao Long Nu” amongst the many screen adaptations of the classic wuxia novel, The Return of the Condor Heroes.
On June 7, Carman revealed on Weibo that she’s seen a surge in comments asking one question: When will she be settling down and getting married?
“As an older woman who has yet to wed, my comments and private messages are flooded with questions [asking] why I have not married anyone yet,” she wrote.
“Why do I have to tie the knot? Perhaps I did not meet the right person at the right time, [and[ remaining single is always better than forcing myself to settle down with the wrong person! To you who’s reading this post right now, regardless of your gender, I hope that you will not make a rash decision just because of your age and the opinions of others. What’s more important is to learn to respect the decisions of others, because it’s their life to live,” she continued.
Carman’s post quickly went viral online, amassing over 1.5mil likes and 100,000 shares at press time. The comments section was also flooded with praise from netizens, many of whom shared the same views as the actress.
“Some people just love to force their opinions onto others, they’re too shallow,” read one comment. Another netizen wrote: “Is marriage that good? Do women really have to get married? Must they always be relegated to the kitchen? If men can be independent, so can women.”
