Mention celebrity homes in Hongkong and what comes to mind? Probably massive mansions perched cliffside, replete with swimming pools and sweeping views. But all that is not for Ada Choi, who recently opened her home for the filming of Chinese variety show, Incredible Mums 2.

Home for the 45-year-old Empresses in the Palace star isn’t exactly a palace, but a humble 80m² apartment in Hongkong, which is slightly smaller than a cosy four-room HDB flat. The price tag? A hefty 10mil yuan (S$2mil). And you thought Singapore property prices are crazy.

The actress, who recently announced that she’s pregnant with her third child, lives here with her husband, Chinese actor Max Zhang, and her two daughters, Zoe, 8, and Chloe 6. The décor in Ada’s abode is minimal and modern, not unlike what you’d find in a newlywed’s BTO flat.

Zoe and Chloe share a princess-themed room, which is decked out with loft beds, presumably to maximise space.

Coupled with mini desks and princess chairs, the little girls’ room, though cosy, exudes a homely vibe.

Ada and Max have even tried to make things interesting for their girls by hacking out a tiny door in the wall (inspired by the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland, perhaps?) to create a fun entry to the playroom next door.

The play area is filled with cushions, books and soft mats. There’s a TV mounted on the wall, and they can read, watch cartoons, play games to their hearts’ content. But that isn’t the only entertainment in the room. The couple has also installed a foldable flying fox and climbing net to the loft, where they can cuddle up with their soft toys.

Here’s where the actress whips up home-cooked meals. The space is tidy, with sauce bottles neatly lined up.

While parts of the apartment were not shown, it was still enough to for netizens to form their own opinions. Some expressed disbelief that Ada doesn't live in a lavish home, like other celebs. “Can’t you afford a bigger house?” questioned a fan. “Is this really the home of a goddess? It’s too small!” said another.

However, others argued that in Hongkong, where land is scarce and shoebox apartments are the norm, the size of Ada’s apartment would be considered a luxury. What space-saving methods will Ada and Max have to employ when Baby No. 3 comes along? We can’t wait to find out.

  • 9 of 9 Okay, this is something you won't find in most HDB flats.
