Imagine mourning the death of a loved one and having to put up with unnecessarily nasty messages from complete strangers. That’s what Taiwanese cheerleader Wu Han Qun aka Qun Qun has been dealing with ever since she admitted to her relationship with late singer-actor-host Alien Huang after he passed away on September 16.

While most netizens have been very supportive, others have been unafraid to cruelly give her a piece of their mind. What happened to good ol’ sympathy or, you know, just being a decent human being!?

The hostility isn’t just limited to the comments sections (which are much easier to ignore), by the way. Yesterday (Sep 27), Qun Qun posted a screenshot of a lengthy and vicious direct message from a user accusing her of using Alien’s death as a publicity tool to boost her own popularity.

Right off the bat, the hater sniped, “May I ask if going public with your relationship will make Alien come back to life? No.” They went on to say that they “really don’t understand” what’s the point of Qun Qun admitting to their romance now other than wanting to take advantage of her association with Alien to make herself more famous.

We must say: Qun Qun’s response was calm, collected, and eloquent. First, she clarified that she does not usually read comments on the internet, but the private messages and personal attacks that have been sent straight to her have been “quite hurtful”. No surprises there.

The 30-year-old went on to explain that the reason she decided to go public with her relationship was so she would be able to properly accompany her late boyfriend on his final journey in life. “If I didn’t go public but still participated in all of that with his family, wouldn’t the media ask me about it anyway? Or am I not even allowed to be with him at the very end?”

She continued, “You have not travelled down the same path as us and have not experienced our lives. If you think I’m taking up [too much attention], then don’t follow me. Everyone has their own way of expressing their thoughts, but freedom of speech does not mean you can hurt others.”

Lastly, Qun Qun thanked all the nicer netizens who gave her strength and shared their own stories with her, and expressed her hope for there to be more kindness in this world. Amen to that.

4 of 4 Alien would certainly be upset to know how his girlfriend is being treated, wouldn’t he?
