Hongkong singer-actor Andy Hui is ready to restart his showbiz career again. Yesterday evening (Jun 15), the 52-year-old was seen heading into the studio to perform at ViuTV’s music show, Chill Club, his first official gig 14 months after he got caught cheating on his wife, Sammi Cheng, with Hongkong actress Jacqueline Wong in the back of a taxi.

Before filming started, he held two separate group interviews with a select number of media outlets, with Apple Daily noting that there were “around eight to nine fans waiting to welcome Andy” outside the studio.

During the interview, Andy, whom reporters noted was wearing his wedding ring, looked to be in good spirits, albeit a tad nervous.

“After this period of self-reflection, solitude and learning, I feel like I’ve truly grown up, said Andy. It was tough during this period, I’ve had [a] 'hard time', every time I looked at myself, I asked, ‘Where is my starting point?’. I worked hard to ensure I’m always looking to the future. Today the timing is right for me to come out and learn to face myself again.

He continued: “What happened has allowed me to learn how to face myself, I feel that this is a good time for me to start again, to become a better me. In this period, I spent a lot of time with my family, they’re very important to me. I really put in effort to enrich myself, exercising and reading books to train myself up. I also put a lot of thought into thinking about what I should do, which is why I’m facing everyone today. Like I mentioned earlier, I reflected a lot during this period of time, and now I'm ready, so I decided to start anew.

When asked if Sammi had said anything to encourage him, Andy said. She told me to be more natural, and to have more confidence in myself.

He also mentioned their pet dog Lucky, who’s 15 this year. “We spent a lot of time and effort to take care of him and I learnt how to cherish [the things around me] through him during this period. Even though he doesn't have much time left, I hope he can be happy and live out the rest of his days without pain,” he said.

Andy added that he couldn’t fall sleep the night before his scheduled appearance, and that Sammi had given him a pep talk. My wife did tell me that I must be 100 per cent ready, that I must have confidence, that I have to think positive and I have to be genuine when I appear, he said. He then revealed what he's been thinking of the past year. I've been asking myself over the year about what can I handle. Seeing so many people, I am feeling nervous. I will bravely promise to face the future, that I will face it no matter how nervous I am.

A reporter then asked if Andy is still in contact with Jacqueline, to which he answered: “No. It's all in the past. Everybody give me some time. I understand that we need time for everyone to accept [my cheating], but I have confidence that I’ll do better with every single step I take. Let’s leave the past behind, I will not forget my own mistakes and the hurt I’ve caused. Every time I see the scar, I will warn myself, and remind myself that I need to do better in the future.”

However, this gig doesn't necessarily mean that Andy is resuming work again. While he refrained from saying that this counts as his “official comeback”, he wants to let everyone know that he is ready and that he is 100 per cent sure of that .
