Carina and Maggie have quite the history, you know.

TikTok, or in this case Douyin, is not just for the young, as Hongkong actress Carina Lau shows in this recent skit.

The 55-year-old recently appeared in this video posted by Chinese actor Xu Xiang, where she gets mistaken for fellow actress Maggie Cheung.

Sounds pretty run-of-the-mill, right? Well, not if you know the history between Carina and Maggie.

For years, Maggie was rumoured to have been romantically involved with her longtime screen partner Hongkong actor Tony Leung, who just so happens to be Carina’s husband.

So, when Xu Xiang, who was playing a waiter in the vid, intentionally misidentified Carina, as Maggie, netizens couldn’t help but gasp in surprise.

“I recognise you!” Xu Xiang exclaimed in the video, adding: “Your husband is Tony Leung right? I knew from the very first glance that you’re Maggie Cheung”.

Staying in character, Carina coolly gestures for Xu Xiang to keep his voice down, before whispering conspiratorially: “Boss, you’ve gotten the names wrong. I’m [Taiwanese actress] Lin Ching Hsia”.

The video then ends with the “waiter scurrying away for a piece of paper and pen for an autograph, while Carina, or should we say Ching Hsia, whispers to herself: “Oh no, who should I sign as?
