Veteran actor Chen Shucheng was visibly emotional when he was asked about his Super Senior co-star Aloysius, and choked up when he remembered how Aloy had selflessly spent his own allowance to buy lotion for his colleagues whose skin became sore after a group scuba-diving trip: “When I acted with him in Super Senior, we went out to sea to scuba-dive. Aloysius was very thoughtful. We said we had scratches on our skin, and Aloysius immediately gave us each a bottle of lotion when we got to shore. It was only later that I realised (tears up) that he had used his overseas allowance to buy the lotion for us. But he didn’t have enough money to buy lotion for everyone, ’cos there were just too many crew members. That was when I saw that he was a very caring young man who respected his elders a lot.”

Shucheng also revealed that Aloysius was a filial son who had already started planning to take care of his parents in their advanced years. Shucheng shared: “Before he went to New Zealand, we met up for tea. We talked a lot then. He told me that he had a lot of aspirations after his reservist duty. His parents are getting on in years (holds back tears) and he wanted to fulfill his duty as a child [to take care of them]. He wanted to take on more jobs besides acting after he came back from reservist to earn more money. I felt that he was a rare, remarkable youth. I doted on him a lot, so I’m especially heartbroken [over his passing].”

A distraught Carrie wiped away tears while detailing Aloysius as a considerate colleague and friend. “He was a very kind person, very hardworking and had a lot of talent. He treated everyone around him very well, and was very considerate,” she said. “It’s my privilege to have had many opportunities to act with him since I entered showbiz three years ago. He took good care of me and everyone on set. I thank him for being such a good role model. I wish I can work with him again (breaks down in tears).

According to Carrie, Aloysius was a dedicated actor who never stopped honing his craft. “Even after acting with him on shows so many times, I never felt bored. There’s always something refreshing about working with him, because he’s such a professional and innovative actor. He’s always striving to improve himself. Whenever I’m cast with him I always felt at ease, and I’d always look forward to working with him. I want to say, I’ll work hard on our show (My One in a Million, which Aloy was slated to star in) on his behalf.”

The usually jovial Ian was solemn and suited up when interviewed about Aloysius. We admit, it really got us to see the typically cool Ian dab at his tears with a tissue. Their bromance, like Aloy’s secret love story with Jayley, is one for the ages: “I have known Aloysius for eight to 10 years. We were very good friends. He didn’t have a lot of close friends in showbiz ’cos he was an introvert, but he was a very good person. Everyone from our seniors to the crew all loved and doted on him because he was kind. I got close to him only by chance, ’cos we were both similar-aged actors acting in the same shows. There’s a saying that opposites attract. He’s quiet and I’m outgoing, so we became good friends till now. [His death] was a shock to me.”

Ian also talked about how, like normal bros, he, Aloysius and Shane Pow would hang out and chat about their future. “We’d frequently visit each other’s houses, talking till dawn about our dreams, the projects we want to act in and the characters we want to create. When we got older, we started talking about relationships and friendships. As the years passed, our thinking would change. We were each other’s confidants. I must finish his work for him, his future projects (pauses) and his aspirations. Shane Pow and I used to go to Aloysius’ house and we’d often chat. Aloysius created about seven to eight scripts for the three of us. I hope that Shane and I can make Aloysius’ plans a reality. He had always been very artistic. The three of us had very different personalities. I’m impulsive, and while Aloysius is guarded and conservative. Shane is comedic. So the scripts had

The untimely and tragic passing of Aloysius Pang has hit many hard, especially his colleagues who had experienced first-hand his kind and generous nature. When interviewed by Ch 8 news, Aloysius’ former co-stars Chen Shucheng and Carrie Wong tearfully recounted the thoughtful things he had done for them. Meanwhile, Aloy’s buddy Ian Fang recalled details of their touching friendship and the projects Aloy had planned for them.

Aloysius was seriously injured during a reservist stint in New Zealand, and passed away from his injuries after four days of intensive care in the hospital. Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen announced that a Republic of Singapore Air Force KC-135 plane has been dispatched to New Zealand at 2.30am today (January 25) to bring Aloy’s body home. There will be a private wake for Aloy’s family tomorrow morning (January 26), and fans and friends who wish to pay their last respects can do so at the public wake from January 26, 12pm, to January 27, 12pm.
