Comedian Ng Man Tat’s Frail Appearance Has Everyone All Worried
Recent photos of the 66-year-old has raised concern over the actor’s health.
He’s best known for being Stephen Chow’s sidekick, often playing the auteur's bumbling uncle in his classic mo lei tau movies like Justice, My Foot, Royal Tramp and God of Cookery back in the nineties. And though he isn’t as active or as prolific in showbiz as he used to be, the beloved Ng Man Tat is still highly regarded as one of Asian cinema’s comedy gods.
Which is why these photos of him have gotten people worried. The 66-year-old star was recently snapped out and about with a friend and the photographer noted that Man Tat appeared weaker than usual and needed help with walking as he and his friend made their way to a coffee house. And now netizens are wondering if there’s something seriously wrong with his health, especially when you compare him to 64-year-old Simon Yam, who is just two years younger but still appears spritely and youthful.
It seems like Man Tat has been dealing with health problems for a while now.
Though it was widely reported that he and Stephen Chow had fallen out in the early 2000s — which explains why he was a no-show in Kungfu Hustle (2004) and all of Stephen’s movies since — that couldn’t be further from the truth. Man Tat had clarified those rumours saying that Stephen had approached him to be in the movie but because of his health and how they had to film under intense weather conditions, had no choice but to turn his pal down.
In 2014, Man Tat was diagnosed with heart failure and thus became more health conscious. But in 2015, the actor revealed that he could only recover 50 per cent of his heart’s function and so he had a will prepared. It’s unclear what the status of Man Tat’s health is now but we’re sure his many fans are hoping that he feels better soon so they can see him on the big screen again.
