Daniel Wu Recalls "Surreal" Fight Involving Stephen Fung & Nicholas Tse (While Cecilia Cheung Practised Martial Arts In A Corner)

It sounds like a very strange dream or a scene from a wacky sitcom.

Have you ever gone to a friend’s house and been in that super awkward situation where you inadvertently got to witness a huge argument between their family members? Well, that’s pretty much what happened to Hongkong-American actor Daniel Wu, except in his case, the squabble he saw involved actor-director Stephen Fung, actor Nicholas Tse, and singer Eric Kwok.

Say what?

Daniel recounted that dramatic incident during his recent remote guest appearance on Hongkong-Canadian musician Jerald Chan’s YouTube podcast. Apparently, that was when Daniel and Jerald first met, and it had taken place at Nic’s house in 2006, when the latter and his ex-wife Cecilia Cheung were still together.

Speaking in a mix of Cantonese and English, Daniel and Jerald took turns to share bits and pieces of what they remember about that night. According to Jerald, Stephen and Eric had gotten into a dispute about the rules of poker, and then: “Out of nowhere, one of them snapped!”

“I think it was Stephen,” said Daniel. “Eric kept on joking around and Stephen just exploded all of a sudden. I’ve known him for so many years and I had never seen him like that before. I was stunned and I thought he was just pretending [to be angry].”

Things got even more intense when Nic stepped in to try and break the fight by screaming: “You are my brother, and you are also my brother. Can you stop fighting!?”

As if all that wasn’t, um, intriguing enough, Daniel recalled seeing Cecilia nonchalantly practising Wing Chun on a wooden dummy in one corner as the quarrel raged on, totally absorbed in her own world.

At that time, Daniel thought: “This is so surreal, what is happening here? Everyone’s fighting and then she’s doing this dummy and I’m like, are we (gestures towards Jerald and himself) the only normal people here? (Laughs)

We don’t blame him for thinking that way ‘cos what he and Jerald described sounds like a scene we thought only existed in wacky sitcoms or strange dreams.

3 of 3 Wonder what Stephen, Nic, and Eric make of Daniel and Jerald exposing them like that, though
