Dee Hsu Got Really Mad When Her 8-Year-Old Daughter Said She Wants To Go For Double Eyelid Surgery

We don’t blame her.

Taiwanese star Dee Hsu’s girls are really growing up fast. Eldest daughter Elly Hsu, 14, is killing it in the modelling world, 13-year-old Lily just had her first taste of puppy love (or so Dee thinks), and Alice, eight, is already mature beyond her years.

Dee and her daughters graced the cover of Taiwan’s Marie Claire magazine this month and in an interview, the self-professed chill mum (though many would beg to differ) revealed that her daughters often drive her up the wall.

“The three girls have different personalities. The elder two like to see whose thighs are slimmer, and the youngest one likes to provoke her sisters by saying ‘I am prettier than the both of you. I am the most beautiful’. They would then roll their eyes at her or complain to me and tell me to discipline her,” lamented the 42-year-old.

But what really made her hit the roof was Alice’s obsession with her looks.

“She’s envious of her second sister’s double eyelids and even told me that when she grows up, she wants to get double eyelids. At that moment I could feel myself clenching my fist in anger,” Dee said. But instead of putting her foot down, she told herself to “forget about it”. “By the time that happens, I would probably have dementia,” she added.

She shared that her daughters are going through puberty and are sensitive about the slightest things, and she hopes they would learn to be like her and not take things so seriously.

“You can be sad, you can be frustrated, but you must be able to stand up [after that] because it is really not a big deal,” she said.

However, Dee does take some responsibility for her girls’ obsession with beauty, and that it's probably because of the mixed messages she sends. Like, how she would tell her kids not to care so much about appearances, but then turn around and ask them to see if her eyebrows are even.

She admitted that she feels like she has failed as a mother, but her friends and husband Mike would reassure her otherwise. “He would console me by saying ‘You are doing very well. Kids have their own personalities’. When I think about it, I realise he is right. I am me. Why do I have to change myself into someone else?“ she said.
