Hongkong action star Donnie Yen’s father-in-law, jeweller Daniel Wang, passed away on September 20 after a two-year battle with cancer. The actor said Papa Wang was surrounded by loved ones when he passed away. He was 68.

The funeral was held yesterday (Oct 7) at Hongkong’s St John’s Cathedral, and friends and family showed up to pay their last respects. Spotted in the funeral hall were wreaths from Donnie’s showbiz pals like William So, Simon Yam, Richie Ren, Miriam Yeung and director Wong Jing.

Donnie’s wife, Cissy Wang, and sister-in-law, Irene, were visibly emotional when they went out to greet the media.

Donnie told reporters: “This has been a sombre moment for our family and it is difficult for us to calm down. Everyone knows our family is united and harmonious. My father-in-law had fought this battle for two years. He is a fighter. This illness took him away from us, so today, we will remember the happiness he has given us. Thank you all for your concern.

Cissy and Irene added tearfully that they miss the times they shared with their dad, but declined to reveal his last wishes when asked by the media.

    Last week, in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Donnie posted a tribute to Papa Wang on Instagram. “You are with us always, father-in-law! [I'll] Always try my best to learn how to be a better father and husband from you. But you are truly one of a kind, you are the best and no one can argue with that.”
