Remember the time Hongkong singer-actor Nicholas Tse was ragging about young stars with oversized entourages? He would have a heart attack if he saw how many people Elva Hsiao and her boyfriend Justin Huang have on their team.

The couple, who went public with their relationship on Elva’s 40th birthday last year, is part of the third season of Chinese reality dating show Meeting Mr. Right. They recently started filming their scenes in Taiwan, and they allegedly gave everyone a shock when they turned up on set with their own massive entourage.

How massive, you ask? 27-person strong. That’s bigger than some tour groups. We wonder if they prepped the poor production team beforehand.

1 of 4 Not seen in their promotional posters: their gigantic entourage

For comparison, most top celebrities typically have about nine people in their entourage, including their manager, personal assistant, hair stylist, make-up artist, styling assistant, bodyguard, and photographer or videographer.

Taiwanese media brought up a few examples: Chinese actress Fan Bingbing is known to travel with 15 bodyguards when she attends public events (probably not a bad idea considering how many dangerous maniacs there are out there). Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin was also seen being accompanied by at least a dozen people, including nine bodyguards, during a work trip to China.

Then there’s Mandopop king Jay Chou and his wife Hannah Quinlivan, who tried to be low-key during their visit to Shanghai Disneyland in dark-coloured clothes and masks but still drew tons of attention ‘cos they were being followed around by an entourage of more than 10 people.

Those are still some crazy figures, but Elva and Justin’s team is almost three times bigger than that. Unfortunately, the reports don’t go into detail on what role each person in their entourage has been assigned to, so feel free to come up with your own theories. Perhaps each manager, make-up artist etc. needs two assistants of their own?

We also suspect that Elva, 41, just really wants the best for her 25-year-old beau… although her rather controlling behaviour can backfire at times. Rumour has it that the lovebirds were embroiled in a brief cold war ‘cos Elva turned down a project that Justin was really keen on doing.

According to media reports, Justin had originally wanted to invest and star in a Chinese production, but Elva, who is usually very receptive to his requests, deemed it to be unprofitable and rejected the proposal, dashing his dreams of becoming a lead actor. This made Justin so unhappy that they stopped speaking to each other for half a month.

3 of 4 Don’t worry, they’re back to being lovey-dovey again

Elva isn’t just being some possessive wet blanket, though, as seen from her efforts to hype Justin in other ways. When she joined the latest reality show, she presented two major conditions: one, to be allowed to show her most genuine self, and two, to have the freedom to promote her boyfriend to boost his popularity, demonstrating her belief in his potential in the industry.

The Taiwanese singer’s strictness and Tiger Mum-like tendencies when it comes to Justin’s career are well-documented. A few months ago, he was rushed to hospital after coughing up blood, which was believed to be caused by stress. Elva blamed herself for being too harsh on him by flooding his schedule with performance classes and media training sessions, all to prepare him for the cutthroat world of showbiz.

4 of 4 Um, perhaps she should also remember that she’s his girlfriend
