Eric has admitted that while he has opened a hotel in Hengdian, he is only a small shareholder. “It’s because I’m always filming there and I stay there a lot so I might as well buy one or two [hotels]. My friends who film [in Hengdian] will stay there too,” explained Eric. He then joked that Natalis can’t be trusted and added that his pal’s words are just as unreliable as his horse racing predictions. And to hammer home his point, Eric said that if he really were the ‘Richest Man in Hengdian’, he wouldn’t be working. Instead, he would sitting at home and collecting money.

It’s said that Eric, who is no stranger to scandal, suffered massive losses during the Lehman Brothers investment bank collapse in 2008 and that his daughter, Taiwanese host Bowie Tseng, had lost an eight-figure sum. “I’m left with nothing this time, I’m afraid I would have to start my life all over again,” she had revealed then. Eric, on the other hand, remained upbeat. “I’m used to picking myself up from where I fell,” he had said. He has clearly picked himself up very well since then. He even has luck when it comes to gambling. Some years back, Eric placed a $453 bet on a horse race and ended up winning over $2.8mil. Woah.

Eric Tsang sure has deep pockets. Apart from investing a cool $44.5mil in new movie Golden Job, which stars Ekin Cheng and Jordan Chan, Eric is also the owner of a luxury hotel in Hengdian, China. According to his pal, Hongkong actor Natalis Chan, the veteran comedian had pumped in some $122.1mil into the establishment, leading the former to joke that he doesn’t mind being Eric’s shoe shiner. Natalis also revealed that the land around Eric’s hotel is worth a whopping $700mil and that Eric is now nicknamed the ‘Richest Man in Hengdian’ — no mean feat considering the number of billionaires in China.
