Taiwanese actress and Hongkong actor Eric Tsang’s ex-wife, Wang Meihua, was admitted to the hospital on Christmas Eve after doctors found a “very small tumour” in her lungs during a routine medical check-up last month.

Her doctor told her “not to worry” and that she could come back for the surgery after the holidays. However, the 63-year-old, the mother of Taiwanese singer-host Bowie Tsang, chose to have the surgery to remove the cancerous lumps early on Christmas day instead.

Thankfully, the operation was successful and a total of 13 people including industry veteran Chiu Likwan and Taiwanese actress Pauline Lan turned up to visit. Meihua, also affectionately known as Bao Ma, was discharged on December 27 and is now recuperating at home.

“On the third day of surgery, I went home to rest,” Bao Ma wrote on Facebook, revealing that she was diagnosed with early stage lung cancer. She also seemed to be in a jovial mood as she uploaded a pic of Eric celebrating christmas along with her health update.

“Yes, yes. Thank you all for your concern. My mum has successfully completed surgery and is now resting at home. I hope everyone will be healthy and safe!” Meihua’s daughter, Taiwanese singer Bowie Tsang wrote.

According to Chinese reports, the 43-year-old tried to make light of her mum’s situation when she visited Bao Ma at the hospital.

“As the keeper of finance, not only must I accompany my mother, I have to swipe my card to pay for her medical expenses! Bowie joked.

“I always tell my children that if I’m going to die, don’t try to save me! If not, I will come back to life and choke them,” Meihua laughed.

Jokes aside, Meihua sadly has had a history of contracting cancer over the years. In 2004, Bao Ma was diagnosed with early stage thyroid cancer, but soon recovered after removing the cancerous lump. However, three years ago, two more tumors surfaced and she had to have them surgically removed again.

“This is a plea to the government,” Bao Ma wrote on Facebook after being discharged. “There have been many people in Taiwan suffering from lung cancer in recent years, and I hope everyone can pay attention to the importance of routine medical check-ups.”

In fact, Bao Ma has been on the verge of death so many times that she has already booked a spot at a columbarium for 80,000NTD (S$3,500). Over the past eight years, final farewells have been held for her at least six times.

When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I planned the rest of my life out so that if I lived to be 70, I won’t have any regrets,” Bao Ma said. According to Chinese news reports, her doctors told her that she only has six more years to live. “In a short span of time, I travelled so much. I’ve been all over the world, Asia, Europe, and even as far as Jordan and Dubai. There are only 365 days a year, and I only spent 60 in Taiwan. Therefore, you rarely see me. I am enjoying the rest of my life.”
