1 of 7 Best Actor Nominees

Chen Hanwei - A Million Dollar Dream
Christopher Lee - Doppelganger
Desmond Tan - You Can Be An Angel 3
Qi Yuwu - Mind Matters
Shaun Chen - Blessings 2

INDUSTRY WATCHER: I hate to say that the winner would be Chen Hanwei again, but his performance in A Million Dollar Dream was really exceptional. It’s just so effortless and real.
CH 8 ACTOR: Christopher Lee. Christopher's acting was the most balanced amongst the rest of the nominees. He doesn't overact, he doesn't act cool and he definitely does not rely on 'props' to boost his acting.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER: Christopher Lee. He is like Singapore's Tony Leung. When he acts, he disappears into the role, and all you can see is that character.”
8 DAYS' PICK! Christopher Lee had to play two roles in Doppelganger and he managed to imbue each character with heart and substance and for that he deserves the award.

2 of 7 Best Actress Nominees

Carrie Wong - VIC
Fann Wong - Doppelganger
Joanne Peh - Say Cheese
Rebecca Lim - Blessings 2
Zoe Tay - A Million Dollar Dream

INDUSTRY WATCHER: “I would like to see Fann Wong win, because she has only won Best Actress once, which was at the 1995 Star Awards when the Best Actress category was first introduced.”
CH 8 ACTOR: “Fann Wong. Her acting prowess is the greatest amongst the nominees. Great rhythm and pace. And also very well-controlled acting.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER:Joanne Peh. There have been a lot of positive reviews on her acting in Say Cheese, and I think she was very natural in the show.”
8 DAYS' PICK! We’re rooting for Fann Wong not just because she glowed in her role as a long-suffering housewife in Doppelganger and had awesome chemistry with Christopher Lee who played her philandering hubby, but 'cos it's been 24 years since she's won an acting award. So it's about damn time the actress gives another Star Awards speech again.

3 of 7 Best Supporting Actor Nominees

Andie Chen - My Agent is a Hero
Chen Shucheng - A Million Dollar Dream
Ian Fang - Till We Meet Again
Shane Pow - Mind Matters
Xu Bin - Doppelganger

INDUSTRY WATCHER:Chen Shucheng. He acts very well, and he’s very convincing as a senior citizen with dementia.”
CH 8 ACTOR: Chen Shucheng. His acting is undoubtedly the most matured, controlled and natural among the nominees.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER: Chen Shucheng. He’s the most experienced out of all the nominees and his acting is widely acknowledged by all the other artistes in the industry. After seven years, it’s time for him to win the Best Supporting Actor award again.”
8 DAYS' PICK! Chen Shucheng will easily clean up the competition with his super convincing portrayal of an old man riddled with dementia. Sorry Andie Chen, it's just not your year again.

4 of 7 Best Supporting Actress Nominees

Aileen Tan - You Can Be An Angel 3
Cynthia Koh - Say Cheese
He Yingying - A Million Dollar Dream
Lin Meijiao - Fifty and Fabulous
Sheila Sim - Eat Already? S4

INDUSTRY WATCHER: “I think it’s Cynthia Koh’s time. And among the nominees, her acting stands out the most.”
CH 8 ACTOR: Aileen Tan. It's a fight between Aileen and Meijiao, but Aileen did better in that show.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER:Cynthia Koh. Her performance as a betrayed wife who still loves her husband very much touched me a lot. As a viewer, I really felt the pain, and it was the perfect role to show off her acting abilities.”
8 DAYS' PICK! Cynthia Koh has always been one of our best actresses and her heartbreaking performance as a woman trapped in a failed marriage just proves it again.

5 of 7 Best Programme Host Nominees

Bryan Wong - Hear Me Out 4
Chen Hanwei - Away With My BFF
Dennis Chew - Dennis Uncovers
Desmond Ng - Thrift Hunters
Quan Yifeng - Fixer 2

INDUSTRY WATCHER: Dennis Chew. Not everyone can host such a programme and he has the ability to make the artistes feel comfortable and at ease. For the audience, this show is also very heartfelt and easy to watch.”
CH 8 ACTOR:Bryan Wong can mix humour and sensibilities into his work so it always a good balance.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER: “I still think it would be Quan Yifeng. She is really very good at what she does, and there hasn’t been a show she can't handle. She deserves this award.”
8 DAYS' PICK! Dennis Chew. He has that uncanny ability to extract the most personal of details from otherwise very-private celebs, which is a skill the best host should have.

6 of 7 Best Newcomer Nominees

Angel Lim - Dream Walker
Jasmine Sim - Doppelganger
Joel Choo - A Million Dollar Dream
Kayly Loh - Dream Walker
Michelle Wong - Blessings 2

INDUSTRY WATCHER:Michelle Wong. She really isn’t a newcomer. She just hasn’t been recognised yet. She has the most acting experience out of all the nominees since her first drama in 2015, Life Fear Not.
CH 8 ACTOR:Kayly Loh is very underrated. She acts very well and actually has great comedic timing. She is professional and let's not forget that she's actually the winner of The 5 Search.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER: “Wow this is tough. But if I had to pick, I’d choose Michelle Wong. She is most prominent on the list so far, or at least in the past year.”
8 DAYS' PICK! Joel Choo, the son of Zhu Houren seems most destined to be a star and isn't this what the Best Newcomer award is all about?

7 of 7 Best Drama Serial Nominees

A Million Dollar Dream
Blessings 2
Say Cheese
VIC
You Can Be An Angel 3

INDUSTRY WATCHER: A Million Dollar Dream. There was a pretty unexpected twist and it taught me quite a number of life lessons.”
CH 8 ACTOR: “I think they’ll give it to Blessings 2. They went all the way to Penang and their production value is pretty high.”
INDUSTRY INSIDER: “The best drama will be Say Cheese. I feel that the story is very relatable to our everyday lives, and it also allows the audience to reflect on their own lives and their relationship with others.”
8 DAYS' PICK! Even though A Million Dollar Dream received the most nominations this year, we think Blessings 2 will pick up this award. After all, the drama's director won Best Director at the Star Awards 2019 Creative Achievement Awards just a couple of weeks ago.
