The singer was reportedly so affected by her failed marriage that she cried every day for six months.

Looks like those rumours were right on the money again. Just last month, Apple Daily reported that the Malaysian singer Fish Leong and her Taiwanese wine merchant hubby Tony Chao had signed their divorce papers, thus ending their nine-year marriage. It was then rumoured that their marriage ended because of Tony's philandering ways. At that time, Fish chose to remain silent while Tony quickly denied the allegations saying that “there was no (affair) and there’s no such thing as a (divorce)”.

But yesterday (Sep 8), the 41-year-old singer finally admitted that she and Tony are no longer together after a performance in Taipei.

“Thanks everyone for your support,” Fish told the media backstage. “I’ll confirm what everyone is thinking. I have signed the divorce papers with Mr Chao, but there are still some procedures that haven’t been completed yet. We were already separated before August, and we will be sharing the custody of our child.”

Fish also revealed that her friends and family were there for her while she was dealing with her divorce, especially her mum, who accompanied her through the dark period. A source close to Fish said that the divorce had affected the singer badly, and that she had cried every day for six months to the point where she needed to go for psychological counselling.

When asked by journos if the split was caused by a third party, Fish reportedly lowered her head and stayed silent. She also started tearing up. It was then that her manager jumped in and ended the interview.

“This thing has been going on for quite some time already,” Fish’s manager said. “She is an adult and knows how to handle this.”

According to Apple Daily, Fish had been very supportive of her hubby’s business ventures, so much so that she had mortgaged her house to help him out, even borrowing money from others just so that Tony could get open a restaurant. However, the restaurant has since closed down and Tony reportedly still owes debtors money.

“From my understanding, Fish has always supported Mr Chao’s career. Now that they’re divorced, there’s nothing to talk about,” Fish’s manager said when asked to confirm the rumour. Reporters tried to contact Tony but to no avail, as he had turned off his phone and did not reply to any of their messages.

After the news went viral, netizens took to Fish’s Instagram page to leave messages of encouragement for the singer.

“Big hug! Love you!” a fan wrote. “We love you, as always!” commented another.

While most comments were welcomed, Fish’s BFF Taiwanese singer Christine Fan’s wasn’t.

At 11.30pm last night, Christine wrote on her Weibo saying: “I have never been a big mouth! Protect! I’ll always protect you and be by your side. Love you!” The singer was clearly referring to the boo-boo her manager made last month when the latter told reporters that Christine had already known that there was trouble in Fish and Tony's marriage two years ago.

Fans did not take a liking to Christine’s new post, calling her out for “being unnecessary”, and Christine eventually deleted her post.

“Her EQ is so low, there’s no use in deleting it.” one unimpressed netizen wrote.
