Hyun Joon is now caught in a dispute with his former manager who said he lost the will to live when he worked for the actor.

It all started on July 9 when Kim Gwang Seob, the former manager of Korean star Shin Hyun Joon, claimed in an interview that he was mistreated by the actor for 13 years.

The 52-year-old, who became Shin Hyun’s manager in the ‘90s, said he had been severely underpaid, verbally abused, and was also forced to run personal errands for the actor's family — all while being refused a “formal contract”.

In fact, Gwang Seob claimed that he was subjected to such horrible treatment that he “lost the will to live”.

The 51-year-old actor strongly denied the allegations with a statement via his management, HJ Film.

“I have received [Gwang Seob’s words] with great shock. When two people work together for many years, is it possible to not have any conflict or disappointments?” Hyun Joon said, adding that Gwang Seob could’ve initiated a meet-up if he was unhappy with something.

He also addressed the claims of verbal abuse, explaining that he only used “rough language” while talking to Gwang Seob as both of them had known each other for a long time.

Unwilling to back down, Gwang Seob released a series of texts between him and Hyun Joon on July 13, detailing their conversation about his pay for setting up the star’s fan meet in Japan back in 2012.

“How much do I get?” the text read. Hyun Joon’s alleged reply? “We’ll see how you do.”

Hyun Joon and HJ Film quickly rubbished the messages, saying that it had been “edited to dishonestly explain the situation at the time” and announced that they would be taking legal action.

Later on the same day, Gwang Seob made a police report. He requested that the Stairway To Heaven star be reinvestigated for claims of illegal Propofol use in 2010, and asked for the results to be made public.

In case you didn’t know, Propofol is a powerful sedative drug that's used for general anesthesia in surgery. Any other use of Propofol is illegal in South Korea.

Hyun Joon admitted that he had indeed used Propofol — but only to treat his back pain.

As the actor had medical records to prove his condition, he said that the investigation back then “ended with the acknowledgement that the injections were for the goal of proper treatment.

A source from Seoul Gangnam Police Station confirmed that a report has been filed, and that they will conduct an investigation on the case.

“It is true that we have received a written accusation about a claim of illegal Propofol use regarding Shin Hyun Joon. At this stage, we have processed the civil complaint. As the complaint states that an investigation had taken place at the time, we will have to check the truth of that. If it is a case from 2010, there is also the statute of limitations to consider,” the source claimed. According to reports, the statute of limitations for most drug cases in South Korea is seven years.

As the case is still ongoing, Hyun Joon and his family have chosen to temporarily suspend filming for reality show The Return of Superman.
