It’s not a stretch to say Chinese reality talent competition Sisters Who Make Waves was one of the hottest shows in China this year. The hugely successful show, which pits female stars over 30 against each other, has revived the careers and boosted popularity of its contestants like Taiwanese singer Annie Yi and Chinese actress Eva Huang.

A second season is in the works and will reportedly boast a star-studded cast including Ada Choi, Yang Mi and Irene Wan.

According to reports, producers also had their eye on Hongkong star Gillian Chung, who began her showbiz career as one-half of pop duo Twins, and were already in talks to get her in the competition.

1 of 2 Gillian doesn't want the scandal back in the spotlight again

However, when the 39-year-old heard that Cecilia Cheung had also signed on to be on the show, she immediately turned it down.

Her reason? Appearing in the same show would remind people of the Edison Chen sex photo scandal.

For the uninformed, Ceci and Gillian, together with Edison, shocked the world 12 years ago when their sex photos were splashed all over the Internet. The scandal basically destroyed their careers so it’s understandable that Gillian would give up the opportunity to be on show than have the scandal brought up again.

As it turns out, the scandal not only affected Gillian's career but also how she views relationships.

According to sources, she felt inferior and yearned to get married, which was probably why she rushed into marriage with Taiwanese-American doctor Michael Lai, only to divorce less than two years later.

In a recent interview, Gillian said she would not date or marry again.
