The death of Alien Huang sent shockwaves across the Asian entertainment world and dominated headlines so much that it was pretty impossible to ignore. The updates were accompanied by heart-warming tributes and positive stories about the Taiwanese star, which piqued the curiosity of one woman who had never even heard of him until the news of his passing broke.

On Wednesday (Nov 11), a picture of a handwritten letter signed by a “grandma in Hongkong” was posted on the Instagram account of Mr. Player, the variety show Alien hosted with Jacky Wu and Kid Lin. The note was sent by that woman, who shared that after she heard of Alien’s death, she proceeded to watch his Mr. Player episodes and over a hundred other clips of him, and it’s safe to say she became a new fan.

In her letter, the grandma thanked the Mr. Player team for putting together all the special clips containing highlights of Alien’s life, which “kept the memory of his warmth alive” and gave her the courage to face her own difficulties as she was inspired by the late singer-actor’s positivity.

“I finally understood why so many people were so sad [when he died], as if they had just lost a part of their body,” she wrote. “There used to be such a warm Alien who brought so much joy to everyone on this planet.”

Needless to say, netizens were extremely moved by the letter and got into all kinds of discussions about their own memories of Alien. They also expressed their hope for the grandma to successfully overcome whatever challenges she’s going through right now.

Alien was found dead by his father in his Taipei home on September 16 at the age of 36. His death is suspected to have been caused by a fatal combination of congenital polycystic kidney disease, elastic fibre abnormalities, and high blood pressure, which led to an aortic dissection (the tearing of the main artery that carries blood away from the heart). He was cremated on September 25 and his ashes were laid to rest in a bed of flowers.
