Hongkong-Indian Former TVB Actor Q Bobo Is Going To Be A Grandfather At 52
Some of his contemporaries in showbiz are just becoming first-time dads at the same age.
While Chinese singer Li Quan recently revealed that he had just become a first-time father at 52, Hongkong-Indian actor Gill Mohindepaul Singh, better known as Q Bobo, has announced his impending ‘promotion’ to grandfather status at the same age.
Q Bobo became the first Indian actor to be signed by TVB in the mid-2000s and he went on to enjoy a successful career for years.
However, his drama offers started drying up in 2017, prompting him to leave the company in 2019 and move to Scotland, where his family is based.
Although Q Bobo had a very good life in Europe as a restaurant owner and landlord, it seems he still longed for his old life in showbiz and returned to Hongkong at the beginning of this year to continue working.
However, that turned out to be short-lived, and he has since jetted back to Scotland again — albeit for a much happier reason this time.
On Friday (Jul 30), the day before his departure from Hongkong, Q Bobo’s famous friends such as Chinese singer Li Lai Ha, Hongkong actress Sharon Kwok, and Hongkong singer Joe Junior organised a farewell party for him.
The media had a chance to catch up with him during the gathering as well, and that’s when he shared the good news.
In an interview, Q Bobo explained that the reason he had to go back to Scotland so quickly was ‘cos his eldest son, 30-year-old Inderpal, is about to become a father.
Inderpal’s doctor wife is currently nine months pregnant and due to give birth in mid-August.
According to Q Bobo, he had wanted a grandchild for a while. And so, he, his wife and their younger son Arvin, 18, stayed over at his sister’s place every weekend so that his older son and daughter-in-law could have some, um, time alone.
His efforts finally paid off after three years, and now, four generations of his family (including his mother) will be living under the same roof.
Q Bobo, who was born and raised in Hongkong, and his wife Gurinder Kaur Gill got married in 1990 when he was about 21. Their first son was born the following year.
