Still making headlines almost two decades after her retirement.

At around this time a year ago, netizens were losing it over Joey Wong’s ageless beauty after the retired Taiwanese screen goddess shared new pictures of herself to greet her followers during the Dragon Boat Festival.

This year was no different. On Thursday (Jun 25), the 53-year-old posted a rare-ish selfie — she usually only posts one once every few months — to wish everyone a Happy Dragon Boat Festival again. The picture was originally shared by her official fan club on Weibo.

In the picture, Joey, who shot to fame playing a spirit in 1987’s A Chinese Ghost Story, is wearing little to no make-up and looks youthful for her age.

The comments section of both Joey’s and her fan club’s posts were soon filled with gushing remarks from netizens, such as “Her aura is still so beautiful”, “Big sister’s skin condition is so good”, “She still looks so delicate and pretty”, and “Beauty is undefeated by age”. Some also expressed their wish for Joey to return to Taiwan soon to meet her fans again.

As you can see, public interest in Joey has far from faded even though it’s been 16 years since she last acted onscreen in acclaimed Chinese film Shanghai Story (you know people still care when your selfies continue to make headlines). Not long after that, she officially quit showbiz and moved to Vancouver, Canada, where she lives a quiet, idyllic life with her pet dog.
