Well, well, well, it looks like those theories about Joey Wong’s Instagram page being fake turned out to be true after all.

Earlier this week, an account posing as the 54-year-old former screen goddess called “wangzuxian_joeywong” upset a lot of folks with a post showing the number of medals won by China, Hongkong, and Taiwan at the recent Tokyo Olympics.

What got the Taiwanese up in arms was the fact that Taiwan was called Chinese Taipei” in the pic, which, coupled with the account’s display of support for Xinjiang cotton when its controversy was raging earlier this year, had people slamming the Taiwan-born star for her supposed pro-China stance.

On Thursday (Aug 12), Joey took to Chinese online community Baidu Tieba to call out her IG impersonator, saying that they had “made a big mistake”.

“I will not rule out taking legal action,” she warned, sharing screenshots of the account with the word “FAKE” stamped over it to drive the point home.

“I hope you sincerely mend your ways. Amitabha,” added the devout Buddhist.

Whoever is running “wangzuxian_joeywong”, which has over 77,000 followers now, appears to have stolen Joey’s photos from her Baidu Tieba page and uploaded them onto Instagram with the watermark cropped out to pass off as original content.

After retiring from showbiz in 2004, Joey moved to Canada and keeps a low profile away from the spotlight (unless you count making headlines for her age-defying beauty every now and then).

Since she is no longer repped by a manager or company, it is difficult to verify the authenticity of social media accounts claiming to belong to her.

However, a verified Weibo fan account called “Joey Wong Weibo Fanclub” has clarified that the only legitimate social media site that Joey has is Baidu Tieba, which she personally runs under the username “JoeyCookie”.
