Joey Wong’s Secret To Anti-Aging Is… Sleeping Early?

Eternal goddess Joey Wong, the Taiwanese actress who played ageless ghost Nie Xiaoqian in the 1987 comedy-horror flick A Chinese Ghost Story, recently celebrated her 52nd birthday.

She looks like she just celebrated her 25th birthday instead, judging by how youthful she is. The active Facebook user, who regularly interacts with her fans on social media, posted a grateful message to them: “When I celebrated my birthday in early February, I shared on Instagram about thinking how I could bear all of your [overwhelming] love for me. I have never regretted joining showbiz because it let me have beautiful encounters with all of you.”

She also mused about life in her 50s, sharing that she “had been sleeping earlier”. Is this why Joey looks fresh as a daisy, despite being a quinquagenarian? The devout Buddhist is well-known, too, for her reflective words of gratitude on Facebook, and frequently ends her messages with a Zen-like “Amitabha”. Perhaps Joey’s anti-aging secret is simply getting enough sleep and having a Zen mindset.

Joey retired from acting after starring in the acclaimed 2004 drama flick Shanghai Story. She moved to Vancouver, Canada, where she leads a low-profile, idyllic life. She often posts envy-inducing vacay photos on Facebook, though netizens have also occasionally shared sneak shots of Joey dining at restaurants. She only made a brief public appearance in 2016, when she returned to Taiwan to attend her father’s funeral.

Along with Maggie Cheung, Rosamund Kwan and Cherie Chung, Joey is widely regarded as one of the ‘Four Flowers’ of Hong Kong cinema. Unsurprisingly, the quartet has all aged very gracefully, with 56-year-old Rosamund Kwan also making headlines for looking impossibly fab at her age. Ah, to be forever young and famous… and rich.
