Earlier this week, footage of celebs like Jackie Chan, Eric Tsang, Alan Tam, Alex Fong Chung-sun, Ben Lam, Oscar Leung, Bobby Auyeung, Ken Lo and Michael Wai partying it up with Hongkong police officers was released online, causing quite the stir.

It was later revealed that there were more stars involved, and one of them was Julian Cheung. This revelation has placed him on the receiving end of pretty nasty comments from pro-democracy netizens, some of whom claimed that they felt “betrayed” for supporting the actor all these years.

That's not all. A photo of Julian posing with former superintendent Franklin Chu at the party was then posted online, causing an even bigger uproar. You see, back in 2017, Franklin was found guilty of assaulting a bystander during the Occupy Central protests in 2014, and he was sentenced to three months in prison.

After the photo was uploaded, netizens attacked Julian for his willingness to be chummy with “someone who showed that he is willing to use violence against an innocent bystander”.

They then proceeded to bombard Julian’s 13-year-old son, Morton Cheung’s social media accounts. “I’m so disappointed about your Dad (sic),” one netizen wrote in English.

Julian’s wife, Anita Yuen, has since responded to those netizens. “My child has done nothing wrong. Can you stop treating him this way? Thank you!” she wrote. She was then attacked for trying to defend Julian, and she later deleted her comment.

At press time, neither Julian nor Anita have made a statement about the scandal.
