“Missing You”: Leslie Cheung’s Boyfriend Posts New Pic Of Late Star On 18th Death Anniversary
P/S: A free online memorial concert featuring performances by Julian Cheung and Karen Mok will be held tonight.
Today (Apr 1) marks 18 years since Leslie Cheung passed away, but the beloved Hongkong showbiz icon is still as sorely missed as ever by fans, friends, and of course, his partner of many years, Daffy Tong.
At midnight, Daffy continued his annual ‘tradition’ of remembering the late star on his death anniversary by sharing another never-before-seen pic of Leslie, which was accompanied by a simple caption: “Missing you!”.
Unlike most of his previous posts, which usually featured Daffy in them, this was a lovely solo shot of Leslie looking very happy with a bright smile on his face while basking in the sun.
Leslie would have turned 65 years old in September this year.
Japanese photographer Yasuo Kiyonaga, who worked with Leslie on a pictorial back in 1998, also shared several photos of the singer-actor on his Instagram Stories in subtle tribute.
Despite being one of the biggest and most successful stars in Asia, Leslie battled depression and took his own life by jumping from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Hongkong at the age of 46.
After Leslie died, Daffy, who kept his ashes and also inherited all his belongings, once declared that he would never fall in love with another person in this life, and sure enough, has remained single to this day.
With COVID-19 still in the way of plans to organise any physical gatherings, a free virtual memorial concert will be held instead, where celebs like Karen Mok, Julian Cheung, and Hacken Lee will perform a series of Leslie’s classic hits.
