Mulan Star Liu Yifei Gets Undeserved Criticism From Netizens Who Say She Has Gained Weight
She's not even fat.
Like Sandy Lam’s shapely 21-year-old daughter, Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei, 32, has fallen victim to nasty body-shamers who have criticised her for her weight gain after she made an appearance at a public event in China earlier this week (Sep 2).
When photos and videos of Yifei, who's starring in the upcoming live-action remake of Mulan, made their way online, fans noticed that she doesn't look anymore like that petite, delicate beauty she's often portrayed as in her films.
Turns out, the photos were posted by fans who had gone to the event, hoping to catch a glimpse of their idol in the flesh. But they ended being disappointed by how much meatier Yifei looks in person, adding that she has definitely put on weight.
“Her face looks fat and her double chin is so obvious,” commented a disappointed fan. “Did she just give birth?” wrote another.
Here’s what Yifei looked like two months ago:
And now netizens are saying that maybe all of Yifei's photos have been Photoshopped all along. They've gone so far as to compare Yifei’s pics on her Weibo with the ones taken by people who chanced upon her during her photo shoots.
Someone spotted Yifei prancing along the streets of Paris during this shoot and had shared the unedited pics online.
There are now rumours that the online hate Yifei has been getting stems from the comments she made about the political unrest in Hongkong. “I support the Hongkong Police. You can beat me up now. What a shame for Hongkong,” she wrote on her Weibo last month. Her words resulted in a #BoycottMulan campaign, where people threatened to shun the upcoming movie.
But the actress was unfazed by all the negativity. In response to the criticisms, she wrote: If we're not like-minded comrades, then let's part ways (smiley face emoji).
We're sure the same can be said to those who have criticised her for her supposed weight gain.
