Both Bingbing and her brother Chengcheng have sued rumour mongers for spreading the nasty piece of gossip.

The 19-year age gap between celeb siblings Fan Bingbing, 39, and Fan Chengcheng, 20, has given rise to some rather nasty speculations, namely, that Chengcheng is actually Bingbing’s son instead of her little brother.

Tired of putting up with these horrible rumours, Bingbing and Chengcheng have taken the matter to court and sued their slanderers for defamation.

1 of 4 Don’t play play

In 2019, Chengcheng won a lawsuit against a netizen who kept publishing false claims about his relationship with Bingbing online. Evidence that fully proved their brother-sister relationship was presented during the trial, and the judge ruled that Chengcheng’s right to reputation had indeed been violated, ordering the defendant to pay 60,000 yuan (S$12,400) in compensation.

Bingbing had also filed a similar complaint two years earlier, which ended in the accused having to fork out 50,000 yuan (S$10,300) in damages and publish an apology in the newspaper.

Still, it looks like some people have not learnt their lesson.

2 of 4 Seriously?

For some reason, a hater with clearly nothing better to do decided to take to social media and write: “Fan Bingbing is finished anyway. What waves could her son hope to make?” In other words, Bingbing is no longer popular, so why is her “son” (likely referring to Chengcheng) trying to make it big?

Another netizen, presumably a fan of Bingbing, wasn’t going to let such a remark slide and responded by sharing the post and writing: “Indeed, he can’t make any waves ‘cos she doesn’t have a son. Ms. Fan, this person is spreading rumours that you have a son. I’m forwarding this to you so you can sue her.”

They even tagged Bingbing, her work studio, and a law firm known for defending celebrities. And guess what: The star herself actually saw it and replied, “Sure.”

3 of 4 Dun dun dun…

Folks were thrilled with Bingbing’s cool-as-a-cucumber reaction and hailed the return of “Fan Ye”, or “Master Fan”, a nickname she earned thanks to her assertive and straightforward personality — this is a woman who once said she doesn’t need to marry rich ‘cos she is already rich herself).

Others also expressed their disbelief at the person who decided to slander Bingbing for no apparent reason. “[I’m] speechless, there’s no need to deliberately bash [Bingbing],” wrote one, while another sighed, “It’s 2021 and those who spread rumours still refuse to admit their mistakes.”
