Reality shows aren’t quite as real as you think. Oftentimes, celebs ham it up for the camera, or do things that they wouldn’t do just for dramatic purposes.

This is exactly what happened on a recent episode of The Return of Superman, a hugely popular South Korean programme about celeb dads who are left to care for their kids for 48 hours without any help.

Part of the current line-up includes rapper Kang Gary, who was previously a cast member of Running Man, and his two-year-old son Hao. Hao has been very popular with viewers, who describe the toddler as mature beyond his years and have praised him for having a great deal of compassion for those around him.

On a recent episode of the show, Gary and Hao visited a boxing gym that the rapper used to frequent. Gary then decided to have a sparring match with the gym’s owner and after trading a few hard punches, Gary pretended to faint, which sent Hao into a meltdown.

The little boy bawled while climbing into the ring. Even then, Gary didn’t move and only ‘woke up’ after his son kissed him on the cheek. Hao was taken aback at how quickly his dad recovered and appeared shaken up by the incident.

In an interview done after, the crew asked Hao how he felt about what had happened, and the little boy looked like he was about to cry again before asking for his dad to sit with him for the rest of the interview. Hao then said: “When dad fainted, I asked someone to come save him. I was worried.”

Gary went on to say that he was touched by his son's concern and proceeded to kiss the boy.

The episode did not sit well with the Korea Communications Standards Commission, who issued an administrative guidance, or warning, to broadcaster KBS for the scene.

Netizens were also furious at Gary, with one writing, “Is Gary out of money? You’d have to be struggling financially to even consider doing this to your own kid.” Another netizen added, “Stuff like this will become traumatic memories for children. Please start using your brains, you idiots.”
